It was a season of two halves for Bristol City; having suffered only four league defeats before the turn of the year, just four victories in 2018 quashed any hopes of promotion to the Premier League.
Despite that disappointment, it was a season to remember for Lee Johnson’s side who finished 12th in Sky Bet League One as recently as 2014.
Having seen off Manchester United in the Quarter-Final of the League Cup, The Robins' best run since 1989 was ended with a 5-3 aggregate defeat by Manchester City. Pep Guardiola lavished praise on Bristol City following the second leg at Ashton Gate, with Johnson labelling his squad a “Premier League team in training.”

Following a challenging 2016/17 campaign which saw Bristol City battle against the drop, The Robins’ transformation last season has seen Lee Johnson’s stock on the rise.
The youngest boss in the Football League when he accepted the managerial position at Oldham Athletic in 2013, Lee Johnson’s good work at Boundary Park soon caught the attention of clubs higher up the pyramid.
It was Barnsley who made a move for him in February 2015, appointing the now-36-year-old as Head Coach to replace Danny Wilson.
Johnson guided Barnsley away from the relegation zone, ultimately achieving a top-half finish in League One.
His last game in charge of the Tykes saw them book a place at Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. The team Johnson left behind went on to win at Wembley twice – getting their hands on the JPT, but also securing promotion via the League One Play-Offs.
The Key Man
Named in The Guardian’s Team of the Season, Bobby Reid was one of the bright lights in last season’s Sky Bet Championship. Having been pushed up the pitch from his previous midfield position, Reid took to his forward role like a duck to water, netting 21 goals in all competitions including a hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday in March.
