Hull City’s 2017/18 season

League Position: 18th

Average league attendance: 15,622

Top league goal-scorer: Jarrod Bowen (14)

There was no rebound back to the Premier League after Hull were relagated in 2016/17, instead The Tigers were forced to fight off relegation in the bottom half of the table.

Nigel Adkins is the man in charge, taking over mid-season last term. The former Reading and Saints boss has several key players to choose from next season in David Marshall, Seb Larsson, Frazier Campbell and former Bee Jon Toral.

Stil receiving parachute payments from the top flight, Hull fans will be hoping to have brought more success to the KCOM this time next year.

The Manager

Nigel Adkins played as a goalkeeper for Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic and was player-boss at Bangor City before he turned 30. After retirement he trained as a physiotherapist and was promoted from the treatment room to the dugout at Scunthorpe United in November 2006. He won promotion in his first season in charge and then took The Iron back up in 2009 after a subsequent relegation.

Having kept Scunthorpe up the following season, Adkins left for Southampton, and won back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League between 2010 and 2012. Adkins was sacked by Southampton in January 2013 with The Saints comfortably placed in the top flight and he took over at Reading a few months later. He lasted just over a year at The Madjeski Stadium before a stint at Sheffield United preceded his appointment on Humberside.

The Key Man

Heading off to the World Cup as part of Australia's 23-man squad, having made 34 appearances and scored twice last season. Jackson Irvine is Hull City's one to watch next term.

The 25-year-old became a key part of the setup in Hull after his move from Burton Albion, where he had been named Player of the Year for his work during the 2016/17 campaign with The Brewers.

With 18 senior caps and two goals for his national team, he flies to Russia in mid-June to face the likes of France, Peru and Denmark in Group C.
