Swansea City's 2017/18 SEASON

League Position: 18th in Premier League (Relegated)

Average league attendance: 20,623

Top league goal-scorer: Jordan Ayew (7)

Swansea's seven-year stay in the top flight came to an end last season when they were relegated in 18th on the final day of the Premier League campaign. Needing a 10-goal swing on the final day of the season, their relegation was really put through when they lost to Southampton on 8 May.

The Swans won just eight games all season long, darting for the bottom three from the early stages. They went through two different managers, despite picking up mid-season wins against Liverpool and Arsenal.

This year they begin their campaign under a new boss and will be looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League. Often criticised last term for having too much of a 'Championship' feel about the Club, we'll see how they fare in the actual second division this time around.

THE MANAGER

Graham Potter joined the team this summer as the Club look to rebuild in the Sky Bet Championship. The Solihull-born Head Coach spent his previous years developing his skills at Swedish club Ostersund. There, he acheived three promotions and won the Swedish Cup (Svenska Cupen) in 2017.

A fullback in his playing days, he started out at Birmingham City before heading to Wolves, Stoke City and Southampton. A real journeyman, he then moved from Southampton to West Brom and then Northampton Town. A loan spell with Reading followed before his longest contract with York City. He ended his playing days with short runs for Boston United, Shrewsbury and Macclesfield.

Potter's unconventional coaching style has seen his players encouraged to take on community projects that take them out of their comfort zones, like musical theatre productions and acting roles. On the pitch, he often adopts a 3-5-2 style but can change them at the drop of a hat. That's what made it so hard for Ostersund's opponents to counter them.

THE KEY MAN

Lukasz Fabianski 2017/18: 38 appearances

Polish goalkeeper Fabianski joined The Swans from Arsenal in May 2014, becoming a key member of the squad almost immediately. The 33-year-old stopper wanted First Team football away from The Emirates and found it in South Wales. A mainstay in the squad since his arrival, Fabianski played nearly every minute of Swansea's Premier League campaigns for the past four seasons.
