Aaron Greene was buzzing to sign a new deal to stay with Brentford for another year after impressing in his debut season with The Bees Development Squad.

The left-back signed from Chelmsford City in 2014 and has been an almost ever present for the Development Squad this season.

Aaron had made 17 appearances this season in Brentford’s Under-21s as they continue to make progress under Lee Carsley.

Speaking to Bees Player after signing his contract Aaron said he was delighted to get his new deal.

Aaron thinks he has made massive leaps this season since coming from Vanarama South football a little less than a year ago.

“I am really pleased,” said Aaron.

“I couldn’t be happier to be honest.

“If someone had told me when I signed a year ago that I would get another year half-way through my contract I would have been buzzing.

“I am really excited.

“It is amazing how things change.

“In the last 12 months I have gone from not getting a look in at non-league level to getting another year of Development Squad football.

“Chelmsford City played a big part in where I am now.

“I had been at a few clubs in the years before I came here and they all played their part.

“It is something you dream of really.

“At the time I never thought I would come to a place like this and then make it here.

“When I first came to training I wasn’t starstruck but it was a bit surreal.

“I slowly got used to the training as that was a lot more physical than I was doing before.

“Training full-time is a massive difference.

“I feel a lot fitter than I was 12 months ago and I think I am improving every day.

“Hopefully if I can keep working hard I can break into the first-team.

“I want to keep improving and one day knock on the door of the manager and ask for a game.”

Aaron was employed as a left-winger during his time with Chelmsford before converting to left-back at Brentford.

He admits that he had never really considered a career as a left-back but thinks the way that Brentford look to play suits his style of play.

He also feels the switch from mens’ football to Development Squad has helped him as it brings out the technical side of his game.

“If someone had told me 12 months ago that I would be playing as a left back I wouldn’t have believed them,” said Aaron.

“I am really enjoying it now and I am slowly starting to understand what I have to do as a left-back both attacking and defending.

“When I pictured a left-back I thought they would just sit at the back but here I am probably getting forward more than I was 12 months ago as a left winger.

“Before Development Squad football I was playing mens’ football which was a lot different.

“Here you get a bit more time on the ball and there is a lot more passing.

“The mens football was a lot more long ball and running.

“I feel that I have gained so much in the time that I have been here.”

The Development Squad have seen a remarkable turnaround in form in recent weeks.

After winning only one of ten league matches before Christmas the Under-21s are currently on a run of four wins from five in the league.

Aaron believes that a lot of the credit for that turnaround has to be given to new manager Lee Carsley.

“Lee has changed everything,” said Lee.

“Training is a lot more demanding.

“He has changed a lot of things but all of them for the better.

“Even though it is development football it is still not nice when you come away every week losing.

“In the last month the atmosphere has changed a lot in the dressing room and we are enjoying it a lot more.”
