Brentford were narrowly defeated 4-3 in a good contest against Bayern Munich U17s at the FC Bayern Arena on Saturday.
Lydia Bedford’s side put in a strong display against a tough Bayern side. The young Bees fought back three times to level the score line after going behind but were undone by a late winner from the hosts.
A good start in Munich for the young Bees saw Kaya Halil getting on the ball well in the middle of midfield. Bayern offered a physical challenge for Brentford but Bedford’s side more than matched the German team.
The first chance of the game fell to the visitors after a corner from Otis Honor was fumbled by the Bayern keeper.
Peters latched onto the loose ball and headed towards goal but his attempt came off the bar before being cleared.
Domiero Bobb-Semple was a threat for Brentford and he came close after beating his man on right flank but his shot from a tight angle was easily saved.
Despite all the Brentford chances it was Bayern who got themselves ahead just after 20 mins though Lennart Karl .
The young Bees very unfortunately had a goal disallowed after Matas Klimas got his head on a corner from Halil with the ball falling to Peters who turned his shot in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside
Brentford did eventually get their deserved goal through when Bobb-Semple with played in behind the Bayern defence moments before the half time whistle.
The right sided winger did well to hold off his man before chipping the ball past the on coming keeper.
After the break, Bayern wasted no time to get themselves ahead again in, scoring on 46 minutes through Chris Aaron Afanou.
Brentford continued to play with no fear and pushed forward well with the ball, the away sides pressure lead to another equaliser through peters on 55 minutes.
The left winger, who also netted vs Heidenheim, cut inside from the left flank and smashed the ball powerfully into the back of the net.
Karl was a real danger man for Bayern with the number 10 smashing the bar with an excellent free-kick from 30 yards.
After being awarded another set peice opportunity on 70 minutes , this time closer to goal, Karl whipped the ball into the top corner leaving Conor Wolfheimer with no chance.
Brentford’s never say die attitude was impressive and yet again the side worked to come back from a goal down. On 80 minutes substitute Josh Djoro was pulled down inside the Bayern box with the Bees awarded a penalty.
Halil confidently stepped up and slotted the ball into the right corner pulling his side back in it again.
All of Brentford’s hard work was undone when Bayern scored a winner at the death. Allen Junior Lambe smashed the ball over the line following a goal mouth scramble earning the victory for Bayern.

Bedford was in high praise of her team following the match, with the head coach feeling her side can leave Germany with their heads held high in what has been a valuable experience for her young side.
