Brentford fell to a 3-1 defeat against Bristol City in the Professional Development League on Saturday at Wheatsheaf Park.
Brentford went into the break 2-0 down despite a fairly competitive opening half with Bristol scoring just 10 minutes after the break to extend their lead. Domeiro Bobb-Semple scored from the bench but the Bees were unable to forge a comeback.
The young Bees came up against possibly their toughest challenge to date as they faced a Bristol City side who sit top of the league.
Brentford started the game well and saw an excellent opportunity come their way through Naeem Giscombe.
The winger got in behind the Bristol defence following a great through ball from Michel Boni, but his left-footed shot went just wide of the post.
Bristol had a great chance of their own five minutes later when a powerful strike slipped through the hands of Conor Wolfheimer but Matas Klimas was there to clear off the line.
The first half proved to be a fairly even one but it was Bristol who took their chance when it came, scoring on 31 minutes.
Jack Griffin got a stroke of luck when Klimas’ attempt of a clearance bounced off him and allowed the striker a clear shot on goal which he tucked away well.
Bristol were growing in confidence following their goal with Wolfheimer making two great saves to deny Harry Hoge.
The visitors continuous pressure saw the side grab their second on the brink of half-time and it was Griffin again who found the net, this time heading home from a corner.
Brentford came out with a point to prove in the second half and could have halved the deficit just eight minutes after the break.
Michael McSorley found himself one on one with the Bristol keeper, but his shot was well saved by Isaac Finch.
The visitors again made Brentford pay for their missed chances with Griffin making it 3-0 on 58 minutes and scoring his hat-trick.
Emeka Peters made his return to football after a lengthy time on the sidelines due to injury.
The winger made a positive impact on the game for the Bees and tested Finch in Bristol’s goal with a powerful shot upon his introduction.
The Bees pulled a goal back on 68 minutes through Domeiro Bobb-Semple, the substitute took the ball around the opposition’s keeper and slotted home in calm fashion.
Brentford began to really put the pressure on the away side with Bobb-Semple a constant threat after his goal.
The winger struck a volley almost perfectly inside the Bristol box, but his shot went inches wide of the post.
Despite the late pressure from Brentford the visiting side held out to secure the three points.
