Brentford Under-18s fell to a 3-1 defeat to Barnsley Under-18s on Friday in Professional Development League action.

Travelling to Oakwell Training Ground for the fixture, the young Bees went into the half-time break 1-0 down, before leaking a second goal early in the second half. Naeem Giscombe got one back for Brentford, however a third goal to the home side secured them all three points.

The opening 15 minutes was an even contest between the two sides, both teams enjoying time in possession without troubling the opposition’s defence.

Kaya Halil and Greg Asemokhai got involved in the play early, Halil finding the latter from a corner at the back post, however Asemokhai’s header went wide.

Geoffrey Lundoloki nearly found the opener three minutes later for the home side, fighting his way through a defender and firing a shot which was well defended and deflected away by Mikel Francis.

Warming into the game the young Bees started to find some good connection. On 16 minutes Freddie Taylor found Domeiro Bobb-Semple down the left side, who pushed inside and fired a shot that was deflected away, falling to Halil whose shot went wide.

As the time clocked 20 minutes it was the home side who found the opener, Kieran Graham’s shot from the edge of the box hitting the bar and falling in to make it 1-0.

Brentford keeper Evan Anderson was called into action on 24 minutes, the Scotsman diving to his right to make a strong save.

Searching for an equaliser the young Bees continued to push forward strongly. As the half-hour mark approached Michael McSorley played a long ball from the middle to Bobb-Semple on the left side, the latter’s shot from the edge of the box going high over the bar.

Bobb-Semple was at it again on 30 minutes, running onto a ball from Giscombe inside the box, however his shot was saved by Aston Wilson in goal for Barnsley.

Coming out of the half-time break it was the home side that was on the attack, Tom Senior able to find the back of the net from close range on 47 minutes following a corner.

Down 2-0 the young Bees were eager for their first goal and found it through Giscombe on 50 minutes. Bobb-Semple put in a strong cross from the left side, finding Giscombe at the back post who put the ball home.

As the game remained in the balance Anderson was called into action twice as the hour mark approached, first able to tip a ball over the bar to save a goal and second making a strong save in a one-on-one situation.

McSorley nearly found an equaliser for Lydia Bedford’s side on 62 minutes as he took a touch to his right and shot, however it went wide and hit the side of the net.

Having repelled Brentford’s attacks, Barnsley secured all three points with a third goal on 65 minutes. After the ball wasn’t cleared out of the box from a free kick it bounced around before falling into the back of the net off a young Bees’ defender.
