Bedford excited ahead of test against Spurs
Looking ahead to the match at Wheatsheaf Park, Brentford U18 head coach Lydia Bedford said: “I hope you’re (supporters) going to see a team that plays with real grit and determination and a resilience. You’re going to see players that are willing to embrace one-vs-one duels and get in the face of the opponent that they’re up against.
“The opportunity to go straight in and match ourselves against a category one opponent is one that really excites the boys and the staff.
“We know that they’ve got a strong cohort of players, but what we don’t want to do is spend so much time talking about them that we lose ourselves within it.”
Brentford go into the contest having recently claimed a 5-2 win over Leyton Orient in the South East Youth Alliance League. Tottenham have been on a brilliant run of form in recent weeks and are battling towards the top of the U18 Premier League.
“We all know the beauty of the cup is that whoever’s best on the day wins and your previous games don’t have any impact on that result on that day,” said Bedford.
“That’s the mentality we’ll take going into it, it’s very Brentford … to go up against the top six (clubs) and perform in a way that makes it really difficult for them to get success, but then plays to our strengths too.”
Bedford also says the players and staff are all hugely excited to see Brentford fans cheer on the U18s at Wheatsheaf Park for the first time.
She continued: “It’s quite a unique little ground in that it’s not going to take many people to be there to create quite an atmosphere and they’re the kind of games you want to play in as a young player.
“I’m very excited for us to get a taste of that and there’s nothing quite like playing an evening game too to add to that.”
