Brentford Under-18s fell to a 5-3 defeat against Sevilla Under-18s in an entertaining clash away from home on Wednesday.

The young Bees flew out to Spain on Monday, before training in the sunshine on Tuesday and then facing Sevilla at the La Liga club's training ground a day later.

Adam Poliakov scored early in the second half for Brentford, while two trialists also found the back of the net.

The clash saw a new-look squad take to the pitch, featuring a mix of first and second year scholars, Brentford Under-16s players and trialists.

Sevilla started the better of the two sides, taking an early lead inside the opening five minutes.

While the hosts were dominating much of the early possession, the young Bees found an equaliser on the counter attack on 13 minutes with trialist B tucking home a neat finish from a tight angle.

As the match ticked over the 20-minute mark, Brentford were starting to enjoy more time on the ball as the young Bees eased into the game.

Goalkeeper Connor Wolfheimer was called into action on 25 minutes after Sevilla found a one-on-one opportunity, with the Brentford keeper making a strong save to keep it 1-1.

While Wolfheimer repeated his efforts two minutes later, Sevilla were there to tap home the rebound to make it 2-1.

The game steadied across the second half of the opening 45 minutes, with neither side able to create any further chances of note.

Brentford struck first after the break as Poliakov found the bottom corner to make it 2-2.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as Sevilla pounced on a loose pass and scored to regain their lead.

Substitutes Luka Bentt, Isaiah Powis, Yerime Ouattara, Beau Redknapp and Naeem Giscombe provided fresh legs for the young Bees either side of the hour mark as the visitors eyed an equaliser.

However, Sevilla opened up a two-goal cushion after another turnover of possession saw the hosts pounce and finish well to make it 4-2.

Brentford were back in the game soon after, with trialist A finding the back of the net on 78 minutes following some strong build up play by the visitors.

The west Londoners pushed for a late leveller but to no avail as Sevilla added a fifth goal with the final kick of the game.

Brentford U18s: Wolfheimer (Trialist C 53), Taylor (Ouattara 53), Trialist A, Golding (Oladapo-Gamu 67), Klimas, Honor (Bentt 53), Bobb-Semple, Poliakov (Redknapp 67), Peters (Giscombe 67), Roca (Powis 53), Trialist B
