Brentford Women’s B Team’s winning streak comes to an end as they exit the JGMT Cup in the Second Round following their defeat to Actonians Reserves.
Two goals in both halves from the hosts cancelled out a Kasey Clifford strike and ensured Actonians' place in the Third Round of the competition.
The Bees came into the game in fine form as they looked to continue their winning streak but faced a tough challenge against Actonians Reserves who ply their domestic trade in the league above the B team.
Brentford got off to the worst possible start as Actonians took the lead on eight minutes.
After being awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box the Actonians midfielder smashed the ball past Sophie Boycott leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
The Bees responded well to this and had a couple of opportunities of their own just a few minutes later.
First Chelsey Logan was denied after she found herself one on one with the Actonians' keeper following a great pass from Clifford but her shot was well saved.
Logan was back at it soon after as she was proving hard to handle on the right flank, the number 22 whipped in a dangerous ball which found Abigail Claringbold but the number nine’s effort was easy for the opposition's keeper to gather.
Brentford were made to rue their missed opportunities as the home team doubled their lead just before half-time.
After trying to play out from the back the Bees gave the ball away just inside the Actonians' box and were made to pay.
The visitors started the second half well and pulled one back on 57 minutes courtesy of their captain Kasey Clifford.
After some nice build-up play the ball was worked wide to Aleksandra Dzikowska who delivered a lovely cross towards Clifford, the B team’s top scorer caught the ball well on the volley smashing her effort into the roof of the net.
Just a minute later Actonians extended their lead once again after being awarded a penalty when the ball bounced off Samantha Jones’ thigh and went on to hit her hand.
The host’s number 17 tucked her spot kick into the bottom corner giving her side some breathing room in the game.
Actonians got their fourth and final goal on 75 minutes when they worked the ball well in the middle of the pitch and found their striker who went on to tuck her shot into the bottom corner putting the game out of reach for Brentford.
Speaking after the game Head Coach, Ryan-Maynard said: “To be honest I thought we played well, I don’t think the score line is a true representation on how we performed.
“We handed them two soft goals in the first half and didn’t take our chances when they came but the football we played was really good, especially in the first half.
“A few mistakes and a lack of concentration cost us however the reaction I saw from the players when we did concede was great so that was good to see.”
