Adam Forshaw said he felt good after playing his first game for a month.
Adam came on as a second half substitute as The Bees drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury Town yesterday afternoon.
He has not played since the start of January, missing four games, and only returned to training with the squad on Thursday.
Adam said it was right that he started on the bench – he came on when Nico Yennaris picked up a dead leg – as The Bees have taken ten points from 12 in his absence.
The match at Shrewsbury was played on a pitch Adam described as boggy, rain was falling and a strong wind was blowing in to the faces of Brentford’s defence in the first half.
He said he was pleased to get back on the pitch but disappointed Shrewsbury scored a last minute equaliser to deny Brentford a win.
Marcello Trotta put The Bees in front but Tom Eaves equalised at the death.
“I feel good,” said Adam.
“It was tough conditions to play in.
“The pitch was boggy but on a personal note I was pleased.
“I was just disappointed for the lads that we didn’t win.
“I only joined in training on Thursday.
“I did an hour on Thursday and an hour on Friday.
“It was the right decision to start on the bench.
“I have to try and get back in the team.
“I thought I would come on at around 65 minutes.
“I am disappointed for Nick but I have to take my chance.
“We got the lead and there were other opportunities where we could have seen the game out.
“It was a tough game, pretty quick, end-to-end at times.
“That is what I need to get myself back.
“The only way to get match fitness is play games.”
Adam said he thought Brentford did really well against Shrewsbury.
He said conditions were tough but Brentford weathered the storm in the first half.
“I was pleased,” he said.
“I thought we did really well.
“It was a lot windier than it looked.
“We got in at half time at 0-0 and had weathered the storm.
“We came out in the second half and did really well.
“The conditions were tough.
“It will always be tough if you are penned in, as we were a bit in the first half.
“We try to play the ball on the floor so it didn’t affect us too much.”
The Bees dominated after the break and Adam said he felt a goal was coming.
Alan Judge was fouled as Brentford won a penalty and Marcello Trotta scored after his effort was saved.
They looked to have won it before Tom Eaves scored in the dying seconds.
“I had a couple of half chances, Alan Judge found some nice spaces and George Saville and Jonathan Douglas were getting in the box,” said Adam.
“Alan gambled on something, got in to the box and won a penalty.
“We go 1-0 up and if we are being slightly critical, we are known to perhaps not always take our chances.
“With the conditions, I don’t think we can be too disappointed.
“It is always disappointing to concede late but we are still top.
“If someone offered me that for the start of February I would have taken it.”
Brentford now have a week before their next game, against Crawley Town next Saturday.
They were due to play Sheffield United on Tuesday but the game has been put back a week.
United will be playing Fulham in an FA Cup tie and The Bees will now travel to Brammal Lane on February 12.
Adam said a week of training would enable Brentford’s players to rest and go again.
“It is good that the Sheffield United game is put back,” said Adam.
“We have a week to train.
“It gives the lads a breather and we can go again.
“The lads can have a full week of training.
“We will be raring to go against Crawley.”
