Adam Forshaw said Brentford showed they were capable of winning games in different ways after beating Peterborough United yesterday.

The Bees won 3-1 at London Road to extend their run of form in Sky Bet League One to 12 wins in 13 and 37 points from the last 39 available.

The match was played in a strong win and with rain falling on and off, the pitch started to cut up before kick-off and got worse as the afternoon wore on.

Adam scored Brentford’s first from the penalty spot and Sam Saunders put The Bees back in front after Peterborough had equalised.

Adam saw a penalty saved early in the second half but Brentford limited Peterborough’s openings.

They sealed the win when Clayton Donaldson converted a cross at the far post in the dying seconds.

Adam said the quality of the match was reduced because of the conditions and Peterborough tried to turn it in to a battle.

But he said Brentford, who are top of League One, can do more than just pass the ball and showed it.

“The lads have shown they have so many ways of playing,” he said.

“They wanted to rough it up a bit and get in our face in the second half.

“The conditions weren’t great.

“We have shown we can play football but also that we can do the other sides of the game.

“The pitch got worse as the game wore on.

“It was cutting up and getting slippy.

“That took the quality away from the passing game, both teams like to pass the ball.

“It slows the game down, the ball doesn’t roll.

“Some days you have play to the conditions.

“We weathered their storm and deserved the third goal in the end.”

Adam said Brentford’s confidence showed as they responded quickly to Peterborough’s goal.

Jack Payne levelled with a 30-yard shot that caught the wind, dipped late and flew in off the crossbar but Sam Saunders scored within three minutes.

The Bees continued to attack after the break, winning a penalty that Adam saw saved and eventually scoring late on.

“We have done it a few times,” said Adam, talking about Brentford’s response to conceding.

“When someone scores against us, we still feel we can go on and get the win.

“That is part of our confidence.

“With the players we have got, when teams attack us they have to be aware of what we can do on the break.

“We showed that again today.”

Adam’s first penalty was drilled high down the middle but his second was low to the right of Peterborough goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik and saved.

Adam admitted he had not planned for taking two penalties and would do so in future.

“I have no excuses about the penalty,” he said.

“When I prepare for a game I have an idea what I will do.

“I didn’t have an idea what I was going to do with the second one.

“I will have to work on that, there is a chance you will get two penalties in a game.

“The game goes on, goalkeepers save penalties, and there was still a long time to go.

“We had to carry on and go for another goal.”

Brentford have won five games in a row since Mark Warburton took over last month.

Adam said he knew the squad were capable of it and now had to push on again to build a gap at the top.

“We are made up to get five wins out of five,” he said.

“But we knew we were capable of it.

“With the squad we have got and the players we have got, we can beat anybody in the league.

“Although it is a great achievement to win Mark’s first five games, we knew we were capable of it.

“We are there to be shot at.

“We have to push on and now sit in a comfort zone.

“We have to try and make a gap.

“We want to go up, we can’t rest on that.”

Adam praised the Brentford fans for their support at London Road.

“The fans were fantastic,” he said.

“From the start to the end we heard them.

“When they sing ‘We are top of the League’ it gives the lads confidence.

“It is nice to hear.

“When we know they are behind us we want to do a bit more.”

Brentford do not play again until January 11 when they face Port Vale at Griffin Park.

They are not in FA Cup with Budweiser action this weekend, when the competition reaches the Third Round stage, while Sheffield United, their scheduled League One opponents, are, so the game is postponed.

Adam said he would have liked a chance to play in a big cup tie, like last season when The Bees faced Chelsea, but it may be good in the long run.

“It would have been nice to have a game against a big club, like we did last year,” he said.

“But looking back it might be a blessing.

“Hopefully we can rest and go again.”
