Charlie Adams said he was proud to make his Brentford debut against Carlisle United.

The 18-year-old made his First Team bow as a second half substitute in Cumbria.

Charlie has excelled for Brentford’s Development Squad this year and found out he would be travelling with the First Team on Friday morning.

He thanked Manager Uwe Rösler for giving him the chance and said he enjoyed every moment of it.

“I am really proud of myself,” said Charlie, speaking to Bees Player after the match.

“I have put in a lot of hard work.

“I have to thank the gaffer for giving me a chance.

“Alan Kernaghan spoke to me in the warm-up before the game and told me it was just another game of football and I’d done it many times.

“That is when I felt I could have a chance to come on.

“I enjoyed every minute of it.

“I found out I was travelling yesterday morning and I was buzzing.

“I was really happy to travel, it’s a super experience and to get on tops it off.”

Charlie said he had no fear when he came on and tried to influence the game.

He said Manager Uwe Rösler told him to get on the ball and create something.

“I was buzzing when I knew I would come on, I had no fear,” he said.

“I was excited to get on; I wanted to get on the ball.

“It’s sad that we lost but I’m glad that I made my debut.

“The gaffer said to get on the ball and try to create something.

“I tried my best.”

Charlie signed a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2010 having joined Brentford’s Centre of Excellence after being spotted by Brentford Football Club Community Sports Trust and progressing through the Futsal scheme and then the Advance Training Programme.

After impressing during Brentford’s run to the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup last season, he signed a professional contract with the Club’s Development Squad this summer.

In 13 games in the Under-21 Professional Development League this season he has scored five goals and been involved in numerous others, often playing in a role just behind a lone striker.

Charlie is the latest Development Squad player to be given a First Team chance by Manager Uwe Rösler – Jake Reeves, Emmanuel Oyeleke, Luke Norris and Aaron Pierre have all played competitive games for The Bees in the last 18 months.

Charlie said that was a sign of how much quality was in Brentford’s youth ranks and added it was a culmination of more than two years of work.

He said he had been given advice on how to improve and would be working hard to establish himself at First Team level.

“In the past two years I have been working day in, day out and, thanks to everyone that has helped, me I have got my chance,” he said.

“I enjoyed it.

“The youth system we have at Brentford is superb.

“We have so many good players in the Development Squad.

“Jake Reeves has come through, Manny Oyeleke, Aaron Pierre has had a chance, hopefully I will too.

“It shows what good players we have at the Club.

“The Academy staff and First Team staff have given me some things to work on.

“I’ll be straight to the Training Ground to work on them over the next few months and then in to pre-season and hopefully next year I might be able to establish myself in the First Team squad.”

Charlie said the better team lost at Brunton Park as Carlisle scored a goal in each half to take the points.

He said the Brentford squad knew there was still plenty to play for and there was belief they could bounce back from successive defeats – having lost to Stevenage on Tuesday – and win promotion from League One.

The Bees currently sit sixth in the table with ten games to go.

“It’s the way football goes sometimes that the best team doesn’t always win,” said Charlie.

“I thought the lads did really well in the first half, we created a lot of chances.

“On another day we would have scored three or four, that’s just the way it goes.

“Everyone in the dressing room knows there is ten games to go and there is everything to play for.

“I’d like to think I could get some more games this season but it’s all about the team.

“I just want this team to get promoted.”
