The January transfer window is closed and it now feels like we're heading towards the final stretch of the season.

Before looking ahead to those vital months of the 2024/25 campaign, Playmaker Stats has taken stock and looked at five Brentford players who have been the standout performers for the Bees based on their own ratings.

Bryan Mbeumo

Average rating: 7.17

One of the Premier League's breakout performers, Mbeumo is enjoying arguably the best season of his career so far.

The 25-year-old has scored 14 league goals this season and chipped in with three assists, taking his total Premier League goal contributions for Brentford up to 60 - more than any other Bees player. Those 14 strikes also put him fifth in the top scorer charts for this campaign.

More than just his goalscoring, Mbeumo's overall play has made him one of the most exciting and dangerous attackers in the league. The Cameroonian ranks third in the league for crosses (126) and sixth for key passes (45).

His movement has also been important to Brentford's attacking style, having made 50 carries into the penalty area (fifth-most in the league), and his ability to find space means that he is second in the Premier League for progressive passes received (233).

We can't fault Mbeumo's work rate either, with the forward making 97 ball recoveries for his team in the league this season, with only three of his team-mates managing more.

Mark Flekken

Average rating: 7.17

Flekken had some big boots to fill when he arrived from Freiburg at the start of last season to replace David Raya, but he has grown into life in west London.

Generally, Flekken has had to face more shots than other goalkeepers, with the Bees cannily allowing shots from less threatening areas while massively reducing those from the more dangerous zones.

That means Flekken has been called into action frequently and he's been up to the task. No other goalkeeper in Europe's top five leagues has saved as many shots as the Dutchman (103). Indeed, the only other shot-stopper who comes close is Vanja Milinković-Savić of Torino with a paltry 82 saves, in comparison.

The 31-year-old also has a high save percentage, having stopped 72.5 per cent of the shots fired at him - a ranking that puts him eighth in the Premier League.

Finally, no other player in those top European leagues has kicked the ball nearly as many yards (15,406) as Flekken. For reference, that's about the entire length of a football pitch 140 times over!

Nathan Collins

Average rating: 6.83

The Republic of Ireland international is a vital cog for the Bees, having played every single minute of Brentford's Premier League campaign. His constant presence is one of the reasons he is in the top 10 for touches (1,618 in total) in the top flight so far.

Importantly, Collins has some of the best defensive stats in Europe. The 23-year-old ranks fourth in the top five leagues in Europe for total clearances (136) and fifth for blocks (47). He has also been a nightmare for opposition attackers by tackling 75 per cent of dribblers (a percentage that puts him in the top 10 in the league).

Of course, alongside team-mate Ethan Pinnock, Collins is a towering presence in the air having won 76 aerial duels. That number ranks him third out of all the players in the division - but he's first of all defenders, ahead of the likes of James Tarkowski and Virgil van Dijk.

Sometimes the opposition really do struggle to deal with Collins in the air and with his physicality, which might be why he has won two penalties in the league this season - more than any other Brentford player.

Mikkel Damsgaard

Average rating: 6.79

We already mentioned Mbeumo possibly having his best year to date, and the same could well be said of the classy Damsgaard who is finally earning his plaudits.

Since joining the club from Sampdoria in 2022, Damsgaard had to wait a while before finally bagging his first goal for the Bees when he struck against Leyton Orient in the League Cup back in September. After two goalless seasons, Damsgaard has now gone for the London bus cliché of three goals this term, after also netting against Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

But, of course, the Dane's real job is to be creator-in-chief, which is something he has certainly been doing this season.

Damsgaard has eight assists in the Premier League so far, with just four players managing more. The player ranks second for goal-creating actions (16), with Bukayo Saka the only man to have done better than that so far this season. Those 16 translate to an impressive 0.8 goal-creating actions per 90 minutes.

Those figures are no doubt a byproduct of Damsgaard's excellent passing, with the 24-year-old making 147 progressive passes (eighth in the league) and 14 through balls (fourth). Meanwhile, only Mbeumo has made more crosses (126) than Damsgaard (78) for Brentford.

Yoane Wissa

Average rating: 6.67

Not far behind behind team-mate Mbeumo in the scoring rankings is Wissa, who has already scored 11 goals in the Premier League this season (and 12 in all competitions) which is just one behind his total tally for the 2023/24 campaign.

Wissa's tally has also come without the opportunity of taking a penalty (Mbeumo is so adept at those, after all), which seems him ranked joint-fifth for non-penalty goals. That's one more than his friend and colleague and behind only Chris Wood (14), Mohamed Salah (15), Alexander Isak (16) and Erling Haaland (18) in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, one more goal for Wissa in any competition would mean that he is on course for his most prolific season since he scored 16 in 32 games for Lorient in Ligue 2.

The DR Congo international also reached the milestone of being the club's top scorer in the Premier League when he netted in Brentford's 2-2 draw with Manchester City last month. That was Wissa's 37th Premier League goal, although he will have to look over his shoulder with Mbeumo just behind on 36 (level with Ivan Toney)!

Wissa and Mbeumo are one of the most prolific attacking duos in the top flight (25 goals between them), with only the tag teams of Haaland and Phil Foden (26) and Salah and Cody Gakpo (29) fairing better.
