After beating Brentford 4-1 in the Premier League last week, Wolverhampton Wanderers' good form could see them target a cup run and get their second win over the Bees in as many weeks, says Liam Keen, Wolves correspondent for Express and Star.

With Gary O'Neil's side sat in 11th - 13 points above the relegation zone - and no Premier League game the following weekend allowing for minimal rotation, it could be the perfect opportunity for Wolves to focus their efforts on FA Cup success this campaign.

It's been just a matter of days since Wolves faced Brentford in the Premier League, and they left with all three points after a 4-1 win at Gtech Community Stadium. What did you make of that game overall?

It was a bit of a mad game with the three goals in three minutes and very limited seconds with the ball in play between those goals.

For me, the first half came down to one team being more clinical than the other. The second half was more of a case of being impressive on the other side of the game and having to be professional, diligent, controlled and organised.

Brentford had a lot of the ball in the second half, but Wolves were able to limit them and they did not get as many big chances.

It was a good performance from Wolves overall. Being clinical is probably the biggest compliment, but they were worthy of the win over the course of the game.

After Saturday's win over Everton, they are one goal away from last season's total with half of the season left to play. How satisfying is it to see more goalmouth action?

It is very nice for everyone involved, whether it's fans or me covering the club!

Wolves have struggled with goals over the last few seasons. You can go back to Nuno Espirito Santo's final season in 2020/21, when they scored 36 goals in 38 Premier League games; in Bruno Lage's first season, when Wolves were going for Europe for the majority of it and then fell off at the end to finish 10th, they scored 38 in 38; last season, they were battling relegation for pretty much the whole campaign and got 31.

It has been a massive, marked improvement to be on 30 now, one off last season's total already, and they are going to easily beat the seasons I've just mentioned. It is a testament to the way Gary O'Neil has set them up.

They are a bit of a conundrum tactically because they will change depending on the opposition if they have to, but one thing they have consistently done is attack at pace and in numbers, which is something they have not really done before.

Wolves were a lot more timid under Julen Lopetegui because they had to be to stay in the Premier League; they had to be more controlled, keep clean sheets, and be a bit more diligent.

Now, they are a bit more aggressive, gung-ho, and they have players who are thriving in that system and that style, but are also getting the numbers to go with it.

Hee-chan Hwang is on 10 Premier League goals, though he won't be available for the FA Cup game as he will be at the Asian Cup and Matheus Cunha is on six league goals. Pedro Neto has a bucket-load of assists, even though he was out for two months.

It has been a really good season for numbers so far and I think it is credit to the way individuals have stepped up, but also the way O'Neil has set them up.

Do you think Gary O'Neil is going to be targeting an FA Cup run this season?

I would like to think so. Wolves had the FA Cup run under Nuno, when they got to the semi-final and were 2-0 up against Watford, but ended up losing 3-2 and throwing away a chance of getting to the final at Wembley.

As a historic club with titles and trophies under their belt, fans love a cup run and it is something that is a real opportunity for Wolves this season.

Yes, there will be some suggestions that, after winning three games on the spin in the Premier League and sitting really well in the table, they could push on and get Europe.

They are over-achieving, considering the depth of the squad and where they were in the summer, so a cup run is something I think would be very attractive to O'Neil.

This game lends itself to playing a few more players because there is not a Premier League game the following weekend, but you still want to prioritise the league more than anything, so it will be interesting to see how he balances that.

Which player should Brentford fans keep an eye on?

I said Rayan Aït-Nouri last time, but I will mix it up and say Cunha for this one. Whether he starts or not is a question mark because Saša Kalajdžić will be desperate for minutes.

Wolves do not have a lot of depth in their forward line and, whatever capacity it is in - starting or off the bench - Cunha is really thriving at the moment. He is not only in the form of his Wolves career, but probably of his career in general because he has been at some big clubs, but never really kicked on.

He is now playing just off the no.9, which is his best position, even though Wolves are not really playing with a centre-forward and Hwang has been filling in there.

He is linking up and creating in a free role that is making space for others, but also himself. The numbers he is adding at the moment are really impressive.

Do you expect a similar set-up to that of the league game?

Yes, it should be pretty similar, though there will be a couple of players I would expect not to play.

It will be a back five and then, depending really on how much recovery O'Neil can give the players in the week leading up to the game, it is about choosing available players from there.

It is difficult to say who may or may not play, but someone who could do with a start would be Neto. He played 15 minutes or so against Everton and looked sharp even though he was coming back from injury.

What's your score prediction for this one?

It will depend on team selection and how seriously Brentford take it, considering they have their own injury issues.

With that in mind, I think it will be a tighter game than last time, but I will go for a 2-1 Wolves win.
