There was drama on the south coast as Brentford earned a late victory over Bournemouth thanks to Yoane Wissa's winner.
Bryan Mbeumo’s earlier goal, his 50th for the club, which was almost immediately cancelled out by Dominic Solanke, rounded off a flowing move. Mark Flekken's long pass up the channel was cushioned by Wissa straight into the path of his team-mate who made no mistake with his trusty left foot.
Mbeumo joined Brentford from Troyes in August 2019 and has since gone on to make 199 appearances for the club in all competitions (making it easy to work out a rough goals-to-game ratio) with only Mathias Jensen (205) having made more appearances for the Bees since the start of the 2019/20 season.
During Mbeumo's five seasons at the club, only Ivan Toney has scored more goals with the striker 22 ahead (72 for the club in that timeframe).
Like at the weekend, the majority of Mbeumo's half-century of goals came on his left foot. Incidentally, the only time the forward didn't score with his left foot in the Premier League was in the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa just last month.
Mbeumo has been unlucky in front of goal, too. In fact, we may have been writing this article even sooner had Mbeumo not unfortunately hit the woodwork a remarkable 12 times in the Premier League.
In what has been a tough season for Brentford, Mbeumo has been consistently productive. Despite having only played 24 games this campaign, no Brentford player has as many direct goal involvements as Mbeumo in the 2023/24 season: nine goals and six assists in just 24 games.
While we're celebrating the 50 goals, it's worth highlighting Mbeumo's impressive assist record for a moment.
No Brentford player has made as many assists (39) as Mbeumo since his arrival at the club with Jensen the closest to Mbeumo on 26 assists (in total, Mbeumo's combined goals and assists tally of 89 is only beaten at the club by Toney on 94).
Overall, Mbeumo has 21 Premier League assists to his name since Brentford's promotion which puts him in an elite category over the past three seasons.
Only a select group of seven players (Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Bukayo Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Maddison, Pascal Groß and Son Heung-Min) have delivered more assists in this time.
That's not bad company to be in and Mbeumo's 21 also ranks him alongside Michael Olise, Jarrod Bowen and Bruno Fernandes.
With all those impressive numbers considered, it makes you wonder just how many goals and assists Mbeumo would have accumulated this season had an ankle injury not kept him out of action for three months.
Most importantly though, 50 goals is an impressive achievement and one worth celebrating from one of the Premier League's most underrated players.
