Tucked a few hundred yards off the Uxbridge Road sits the home of Brentford’s fiercest rivals, Queens Park Rangers.

Intermittently inhabited by the Rs for the last 100 years, due to two ill-fated moves to the now-demolished White City Stadium, Loftus Road was initially the home of Shepherd’s Bush FC, before QPR took up residence in 1917.

Converted to an 18,439 capacity all-seater stadium in 1994 in the wake of the Taylor Report, Loftus Road underwent extensive expansion works in the 1970s, setting a record attendance of 35,353 against Leeds United in 1974 before further work in 1976 lowered the capacity to 31,002. The conclusion of building in 1981 meant the entire stadium had been rebuilt in just 13 years.

Comparable to Griffin Park in its’ close proximity between fans and the pitch – and thus ability to create a hostile atmosphere for the opposition – the stadium was the first ‘neutral’ UK ground to host international games that didn’t involve England and has been the temporary home of both rugby union side Wasps (1996-2002) and fellow west Londoners Fulham (2002-2004).

How to get there:

The distance from Griffin Park by road is around five miles and there are alternate ways to reach Loftus Road, depending on your direction of travel. It is worth noting that matchday restrictions apply in the surrounding roads, so Westfield London shopping centre is an ideal parking location and just over a ten-minute walk away. Loftus Road is reachable on the Underground and is a little over five minutes’ walk from both White City (Central Line) and Wood Lane (Hammersmith & City Line) stations, while Shepherd’s Bush and Shepherd’s Bush Market stations are both within 15-minutes’ walking time. The nearest over-ground train station is Shepherd's Bush, which is adjacent to the tube station. Trains from Watford Junction and Clapham Junction both stop here.

Those travelling by bus to the game should take the 283 to Bloemfontein Road or the 72, 95 or 220 to White City Station.

Where to eat/drink:

The aforementioned Westfield shopping centre is an ideal place to grab a pre-match bite, with food from various cultures accompanying high-street eateries. Shepherd’s Bush Green and Uxbridge Road both also feature a number of fast food outlets and a wide selection of cuisines on the walk up to the stadium.

Belushi’s in the Vue complex found adjacent to Shepherd’s Bush Green is likely to be the sole bar that welcomes away fans, with other pubs employing doormen to enforce a ‘home fans only’ policy – particularly with the magnitude of the rivalry between the two sides.
