Goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe has joined Sky Bet League Two side Crawley Town on loan for the 2022/23 season.

The 22-year-old joined up with his new team-mates this week at the start of the EFL season. He joins the Red Devils as they look to improve on their midtable finish last term.

Ellery finished last season with an FA Trophy winners’ medal from his loan spell with Bromley in the Vanarama National League. He also spent time on loan at Burton Albion for the first few months of the campaign.

Ellery has also been on loan to Doncaster Rovers, Boreham Wood and Viborg in recent years. He has 15 EFL appearances to his name and a further eight in Danish football.

About the move, Head Coach Thomas Frank said: "It's a really good loan option for Ellery. He came back in for pre-season sharp, fit, and he trained hard with a top attitude. I was really pleased with everything I saw.

"We know that everyone, especially goalkeepers, need game time to take steps in their development. Sometimes that can be just training with the team and for others that might mean going on loan to get competitive experience.

"You see a lot of stories about goalkeepers going on consecutive loans and they either come back and take a step up a level or they head out on another loan so they can take that step at another club. We believe in Ellery and it's very important for him to get out there and get minutes."

Ellery has also experienced the Emirates FA Cup and the Papa John’s Trophy, as well as being an England youth international. Since joining the Bees at an early age, he has represented England at each level from Under-18 up to Under-21. He was part of the 2017 Toulon Tournament winning side.
