Today has the potential to be a big one for Brentford FC and some of our younger players with the potential for international debuts. Wales will face Republic of Ireland in an Under-21 international friendly this afternoon and four members of the Brentford B squad could be involved. Wales have called up goalkeeper Nathan Shepperd, defender Fin Stevens and winger Joe Adams while Alex Gilbert is in the Republic of Ireland group.

This will be the first time that both Nathan and Fin will link up with the Welsh national side at Under-21 level. Joe, currently on loan with Sky Bet League Two side Grimsby Town, has been involved with the squad in previous international breaks, featuring against Belgium for Paul Bodin’s side back in October last year. Nathan had earned a call up to the squad in March 2020, having impressed throughout the 2019/20 season, but the camp was unable to take place following the outbreak of Covid-19.

This will be Fin’s first international call-up for Wales having had an impressive season since joining the young Bees from Worthing last summer. The 17-year-old made his First Team debut in October last year against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, before making a further two appearances in the Emirates FA Cup. During his first camp with the Welsh FA, Fin spoke about the opportunity in front of him.

“It's a different level of football,” said Fin, on the Wales FA website. “I'm just getting to know everyone so it's a good experience. I'm not just the only new one and I know a few people here, so they've been welcoming and have helped me settle in. The pathway to the senior team shows the opportunity is there. I've had a few chats with Paul Bodin and he explained why he wanted to bring me into he camp so now I'm buzzing to get started."

The full feature can be seen here and Fin also took part in a quickfire Q and A which can be seen below as well as an interview with the BBC here. Keep an eye out for a great cross from Joe Adams as well. The game will take place at 1pm today, Friday 26 March, and can be seen on the Welsh FA YouTube channel.

Alex Gilbert has also been making his mark while with training with Ireland's Under-21 side. See more below.
