Brentford are back in Sky Bet Championship action tomorrow and the players that have travelled around the world to represent their countries are now back in West London. The Bees entertain Wigan Athletic at Griffin Park tomorrow, Saturday 15 September, in a match that will kick off at 3pm and have welcomed back their international players to training in the past few days. In total 12 Brentford players made 17 international appearances over the past two weeks and broke new ground.

The big day for Brentford came last Sunday, 9 September, when Denmark beat Wales 2-0. Henrik Dalsgaard played for Denmark in the UEFA Nations League match while Chris Mepham was in a Wales shirt. This was the first time since 2 December 1936 – when Dave McCulloch played for Scotland as they lost 2-1 to a Wales team featuring Dai Hopkins and Dai Richards – and only the third time ever that Brentford players have been on opposite sides in an international match.

It was Chris’ second competitive appearance for Wales. He played for them as they beat Republic of Ireland last Thursday, 6 September. Alan Judge was not in that Ireland squad but appeared as a substitute as they drew 1-1 with Poland on Tuesday, 11 September. Denmark also played two matches during the break but Henrik did not feature as they lost to Slovakia last Wednesday, 5 September, due to a dispute between the Danish FA and the senior players.

Two more Brentford players were involved in competitive senior internationals. Kamohelo Mokotjo played for South Africa in a 0-0 draw with Libya in an African Cup of Nations qualifier last Saturday while Romaine Sawyers captained St Kitts and Nevis to a 1-0 win over Puerto Rico in a CONCACAF Nations League game. And there was also Brentford representation in age group games.

Ezri Konsa played for England Under-21 in a 0-0 draw with the Netherlands last Thursday. England then went on to beat Latvia on Tuesday night with a much-changed team that did not include Ezri. Meanwhile striker Marcus Forss made his Finland Under-21 debut last Thursday. He started as Finland lost to Denmark last Friday but did not feature in a defeat to Poland on Tuesday.

Ellery Balcombe was away with England Under-20 and played as they beat Switzerland 2-0 last Thursday. He was then not involved as England Under-20 were beaten by the Netherlands on Monday. Ellery is currently on loan at Boreham Wood and will return to play for them in the Vanarama National League this week.

There was also international action for four Brentford B players with Finland Under-19 international Jaakko Oksanen captaining his country. Finland beat Greece 1-0 last Thursday and then drew 0-0 on Sunday with Jaakko completing both games and wearing the armband twice. Goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson played for Iceland in two games against Albania at Under-19 level. Iceland lost the first 1-0 but won the second 4-1.

There were three more international appearances for David Titov for Latvia Under-19. Latvia played Ukraine, Macedonia and Faroe Islands in a small tournament last week. He started two games and came off the bench in the other. And Johnny Mitchell earned two Scotland Under-19 caps in a double header against Poland. He came off the bench in the first game, which the Scots won, and then started in the second, which they lost.
