Permission has been granted for a new indoor sports facility at Uxbridge High School that will be used by Brentford Football Club’s Academy.

It was announced earlier this year that Brentford FC and Uxbridge High School had agreed a partnership to allow players from the Club’s new Category Two Football Academy to attend the school and train on site.

Brentford are now running a Category Two Football Academy under the new Elite Player Performance Plan introduced this summer.

As part of the upgrade of the Club’s Youth Development department a new indoor facility will be built at Uxbridge High School.

The facility – which will be paid for by the Club with a contribution from the school – will have a fully enclosed 60m by 50m pitch with Third Generation artificial turf.

The building will also have six classrooms, two learning zones, changing rooms, a gym and a physio room.

Hillingdon Council’s South and Central Planning Committee approved the scheme at a meeting last Thursday.

The indoor facility should be ready by September 2013 when the Club’s partnership with Uxbridge High School will come in to effect.

Players from the Club’s Under-12, Under-13, Under-14, Under-15 and Under-16 squads will attend Uxbridge High School – which is rated as Outstanding by Ofsted, the Government’s schools inspectorate.

They will attend lessons with class mates and train with the Club’s highly qualified coaches during the day and in the evenings.

The facility will be available for the school to use for Physical Education lessons and Brentford Football Club Community Sports Trust will also run programmes on the site.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Director of Youth Development, said: “I am delighted we have been granted planning permission for the indoor facility.

“This will take the Club’s Academy to the next level.

“It will be beneficial for our young players and also for the school and the community.”

Ose explained Brentford will be running an education and football programme at Uxbridge High School.

He said the young players in the Club’s Academy will be educated at a top level school with an outstanding Ofsted record and have the opportunity to train more regular with talented Brentford FC coaches.

“This will give us the opportunity to have more contact with the players,” said Ose.

“They will be able to train during the day, as well as in the evening, and when the weather is not suitable for working outdoors.

“It is also more conducive to their educational attainment.

“Uxbridge High School is an outstanding school and our players can only benefit from attending.

“They will also have less to worry about with moving to and from training and fitting football around lessons.

“We believe this development will help our players and their families.

“At Brentford we want to produce young players that can come out of our Academy and in to the First Team.

“But we also want to produce young men that have achieved as much educationally as they can.

“This will help that and we look forward to working with the staff at Uxbridge High School to make it happen.”
