Second half goals from Sam Saunders, Paul Hayes and Stuart Dallas gave Brentford a well deserved pre-season win over Millwall.

Brentford played with three in the centre of midfield and Clayton Donaldson as the lone striker in the first half.

They had control of the centre of the park for most of the first 45 minutes and the only clouds on the horizon at the break were that they had not scored and Simon Moore leaving the field after falling heavily.

The Bees continued to dominate after the break, with Hayes now up front, and went one up through Saunders seconds after the re-start.

Millwall came back strongly but Hayes made it two and Brentford maintained their control on a hot evening in West London.

Dallas added a third in the dying seconds.

Moore had saved easily from an acrobatic Jermaine Easter effort early on but replacement Jack Bonham had little to do in the first half.

Alan Forde at the other end was not tested greatly either but his defence had to work harder in the opening half.

Brentford tried their luck from distance repeatedly in the opening period and started to get their range.

Alan McCormack pulled a shot wide before Jake Reeves fired straight at Forde and George Saville, the third of the midfield trio, blasted wide.

Martin Fillo flicked a header over for Brentford and a Saunders shot deflected over after good work from Donaldson.

McCormack shot wide from 20 yards and a long range lofted effort from Donaldson floated just wide as Brentford dominated without breaking through.

Millwall almost late in the half when Easter headed wide but Brentford would have been happier with the first 45, albeit needing to get more players in to attacking areas.

Saunders got himself in to an attacking area seconds after the re-start, picked up a pass from Reeves and curled it past the outstretched hand of Stephen Bywater and in to the far corner to put The Bees in front.

The visitors almost equalised within seconds when Bonham got down well to turn away a Steve Morison header and Millwall had a good spell.

A Lee Beevers header was scrambled away, Martyn Woolford shot wide after working his way to the edge of the box and Harlee Dean blocked an Easter effort when Brentford failed to clear a Liam Feeney cross.

Saunders had a shot blocked and Brentford scored a fine second just before the hour mark.

Shaleum Logan played a first time ball down the right, Martin Fillo raced on to it and squared for Hayes to control and slot past Bywater.

A series of substitutions, adding to the many made at half time, followed and Brentford held on to their shape and pattern of play better than the visitors.

Hayes raced through, on to a Reeves pass, but shot straight at Bywater and the goalkeeper saved a deflected Adam Forshaw effort.

Jack Smith shot wide for Millwall while Bywater had to go full stretch at the other end to keep out a Fillo shot.

Charlie Adams and Reeves missed the target for Brentford as the minutes ticked by and it seemed more likely the home side would get a third rather than Millwall mounting a comeback.

It duly came when Dallas accelerated infield from the right, his pass found Hayes and although the striker’s shot was saved, Dallas followed up to score.

The last few seconds ticket by with Brentford maintaining control, and almost all the possession, before referee Keith Hill ended the entertainment.

They almost added a fourth but Bywater denied Reeves and Dallas smashed the loose ball over.
