Brentford Under-18s made it two Professional Development League wins from as many games with a 5-2 victory over Wigan Athletic U18s on Saturday.

In their first league clash at Wheatsheaf Park the young Bees impressed, Emeka Peters scoring twice in the first half, followed by singles from Michael McSorley and Otis Honor and an own goal in the second 45 minutes.

Wigan opened the game the more attacking of the two sides, the visitors able to put the young Bees’ defenders under pressure.

They reaped the benefits on three minutes, Harrison Bettoni heading it home from close range to give Wigan an early lead.

They nearly doubled that lead three minutes later, however Brentford goalkeeper Connor Wolfheimer was able to repel a one-on-one shot from Cole Simms.

It was a half of near misses for Simms, with Matas Klimas clearing away another chance on goal for the number nine and Wolfheimer saving another clear chance on 20 minutes.

As the second half of the first 45 minutes approached, the young Bees began to flip the momentum of the contest, putting Wigan’s defenders and midfielders under pressure and winning the ball back high up the pitch.

Their fight back saw some reward for effort on 34 minutes, Peters playing a ball into McSorley who played it straight back to the forward, who was through on goal and finished off the play, putting the ball in the bottom right corner to even the score.

The pair were back at it three minutes later, McSorley crossing the ball from the right side to Peters, who played the ball onto his left foot and fired a powerful strike into the back of the net to give the young Bees a 2-1 buffer, a lead they took into half-time.

The young Bees started the better of the two sides in the second half, their pressure off the ball helping them dominate possession.

Domeiro Bobb-Semple came close on two occasions to adding Brentford’s third goal inside five minutes, however he sent one shot over the bar and was ruled offside for the other.

It was the visitors who struck first despite an even opening 20 minutes of the second half, Simms breaking away and finishing one-on-one against Wolfheimer to make it 2-2.

The game continued to reflect the scoreboard and was an even display, both sides providing some promising attacking moves without troubling the scoreboard.

McSorley broke the deadlock on 77 minutes, the forward going one-on-one with his defender inside the box and firing a left foot strike into the back of the net to make it 3-2.

Riding the momentum of a third goal the young Bees continued to press, the fresh legs of Archie Trimboli, Otis Honor, Aidan Golding and Naeem Giscombe proving pivotal as the second half inched closer to a finish.

The latter had an impact on 81 minutes, his cross from the right side hitting Wigan’s keeper’s hands before deflecting off a Wigan defender and into the net for Brentford’s fourth goal.

Yerime Ouattara was the final sub to come on for the young Bees and he wasted little time making his presence felt, finding Honor in the box who finished with his left foot to make it 5-2 and secure all three points for Brentford.
