Brentford Football Club has today announced a summary of the action it has taken this season against a number of individuals who have breached ground regulations, committed football-related offences or damaged the reputation of the Club.

Last season a total of 56 sanctions were issued and 37 of these sanctions remain active.

On top of this, since the start of the 2021/22 season, a total of 206 memberships or season tickets have been revoked for ticket touting and other ticket offences.

The sanctions above were issued for the following reasons:

  • 23 for violent conduct or anti-social behaviour

  • Nine for discriminatory language or behaviour in the stadium or on social media

  • Seven for possession of flares, other breaches of our Supporter Code of Conduct or alcohol and drug-related offences

  • 17 for ticketing offences

Jon Varney, Chief Executive of Brentford FC said: “In February, as part of our efforts to tackle unacceptable conduct at our matches, we published details of all sanctions issued up until that point in the season and we committed to providing regular, transparent updates.

“The feedback we have received in our discussions with individual fans and fan groups has been clear. They want us to take firm action to deal with discrimination, abuse and other offences which threaten the safety and environment at the stadium.

“While we did notice a decline in the levels of unacceptable conduct in the stadium as the season progressed, there is still work to be done. We have also increased our efforts to tackle ticketing offences.  For example, multiple individuals were banned after the Leeds United game for passing their tickets in home areas to away supporters despite our clear warnings. Those involved now face a long wait on the side-lines to be able to return to watch us in action with others facing indefinite bans.

“We encourage our fans to continue to report any unacceptable behaviour, discrimination or unauthorised ticket touting and thank them for their ongoing support.”

Brentford’s Supporter Charter for 2022/23 will be published soon with details of the sanctions policy to follow.

These latest figures have been announced after The FA, Premier League and EFL communicated the new measures and stronger sanctions which will be implemented across the game to tackle the anti-social and criminal behaviours recently seen within football grounds across the country.

From the start of season 2022/23, all identified offenders will be reported by clubs to the police and prosecution could result in a permanent criminal record, which may affect their employment and education, and could result in a prison sentence. The FA will also be enforcing a tougher charging and sanctioning policy for clubs, which will reinforce these measures.

Furthermore, anyone who enters the pitch and those identified carrying or using pyrotechnics or smoke bombs will now receive an automatic club ban. These bans could also be extended to accompanying parents or guardians of children who take part in these activities.

Brentford FC is committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all at our stadium as part of its BeeTogether initiative.

Fans are reminded that they can report any behaviour they feel is discriminatory or abusive by:
