Two late goals from Huddersfield Town B meant Brentford B were beaten for the first time since November.
The B team held the lead at 2-1 going into the final five minutes of the match before two late strikes from Kyle Hudlin earned Town the victory in a match where Yehor Yarmoliuk kept up his impressive form in front of goal as he scored his third goal in as many games.
The young Bees headed to St George’s Park for another tough test and Neil MacFarlane once again named another strong side with the likes of Yarmoliuk and Ryan Trevitt looking to continue their fine form. There was also a first B team start for Romeo Beckham as he was deployed at right wing back.
It was a first half where the Bees started brightly with confidence following their 4-1 win away in Monaco earlier in the week. Kyreece Lisbie had a great chance after just three minutes as he attacked from the left. He managed to beat the keeper as he shifted the ball to the left, but his low cross was shut out by the shot stopper who recovered well.
Nico Jones then almost turned provider as he played a wonderful ball through the centre into the path of Lisbie. He once again looked to round the keeper but he forced him into another good block.
On 34 minutes B team keeper Ben Winterbottom was then called into action as Josh Koroma crossed from the left into the path of Kian Harratt and his shot from close range forced Winterbottom into a smart save low down. Ryan Trevitt then led the counter-attack immediately as he managed to square the ball for Lucias Vine but his low shot once again kept the Town keeper busy.
Beckham then tried his luck from range as he hit a free-kick with pace and accuracy towards the top left-hand corner from around 25-yards out, but his attempt was well stopped by Michael Acquah in the Town net as he pushed the ball away from danger.
The Bees did have the ball in the net just before the break but for the offside flag. Really good play from the ever lively Lisbie saw him find Michael Olakigbe on the overlap down the left and the winger crossed well for Beckham to fire home on the volley at the far post. But it was the offside flag which ruled out a first B team goal for the wide player as the linesman adjudged Olakgibe to have been offside in the build-up as the sides went in at the break at 0-0.
It took until around the hour mark for Town to have a bit more of a sustained spell in possession where they began to threaten the Brentford goal. A good passage of play on the edge of the area resulted in Ben Jackson seeing his powerful shot blocked shortly before a cross from the right found Harratt and his effort towards goal bounced up and Daniel Oyegoke had to head over via the cross bar.
Koroma then put Town in front on 66 minutes when some clever footwork on the edge of the box saw him dart inside and ride a couple of challenges before he worked himself some space to slot home from around 10-yards out.
Neil MacFarlane’s side have often displayed their ability to bounce back from a setback and it took them just four minutes to level the score. A Beckham corner found the head of Tristan Crama and J’Neil Bennet was there to poke home among a crowd of bodies in the area.
Just a minute later the score was fully reversed as the Bees went in front. Very clever play on the edge of the area involving Bennett and Lisbie eventually saw the ball squared to Yarmoliuk who curled home from the edge of the box with precision as he continues to thrive within the B team set up.

Yehor Yarmoliuk (left) celebrates scoring his third goal in three games
The Bees had the lead up until the 86 minutes and Koroma continued to prove a nuisance out on the left. He crossed for the towering Hudlin who was able to slot in past the substitute Trialist keeper from just a couple of yards out.
The Bees didn’t learn from conceding and Town scored again just a few moments later in similar circumstances as Koroma laid it on for substitute Hudlin to slot in again.
