Manchester City defender Charlie Oliver has joined Brentford B on a loan deal. The 20-year-old completed the move on Friday, ahead of the closure of the window for loan transfers, and trained with Brentford B yesterday. He will be available for the match against Huddersfield Town’s Under-23 side on 12 September. Charlie will remain with Brentford B until 1 January 2019.

The Manchester-born central defender has been with City since he was eight. He progressed through the academy and turned professional when he was 18, two years ago, after helping City to the FA Youth Cup Final in 2016. He has been part of City’s Elite Development Squad and played for them in Premier League Two, for Under-23 teams, for the past two seasons.

Charlie spent time on loan at Fleetwood Town last season and played four games for the Sky Bet League One side. Those games included his professional debut, against Scunthorpe United in a League One fixture. He also played against Brentford B for Manchester City’s Under-23 side at Griffin Park in May 2017.

We have a good relationship with the staff at Manchester City and are pleased that they gave us the opportunity to take Charlie on loan. We will have a chance to have a look at him in training and matches until January and he will be an asset to our squad.

“He is a central defender that has come through the academy at City and is used to playing the way we like to. He will provide competition in the centre of defence. Charlie was keen to join us and be part of the Brentford B group, we will help him develop in the short term and he will give us an extra option for our upcoming matches.”
