Two Brentford B players helped England Under-19 to a win in Chesterfield yesterday that sees them qualify for a tournament this summer. England beat Portugal 2-0 in the third of three vital matches in six days. Goalkeeper Matthew Cox and defender Daniel Oyegoke, both left of the group above, won caps in the win.

England have been playing the elite, final, stage of the qualification process for the UEFA European Under-19 Championships. The event will be played in Slovakia this summer. England are involved in a four-team round-robin group to decide who will take a place in the tournament.

After wins over Republic of Ireland and Armenia, England took on Portugal in a winner-takes-all contest. Tottenham Hotspur striker Dane Scarlett grabbed two goals in the opening 45 minutes of the game as the side claimed their third successive win to book a well deserved place in the tournament. Matthew Cox played the full 90 minutes, whilst Daniel Oyegoke played 19 minutes as a substitute. Both will hope to be in the squad for the tournament this summer.

In Under-21 action, Wales' hopes of reaching the UEFA European Under-21 Championships in 2023 are over despite their 1-1 draw with Bulgaria at Rodney Parade. Fin Stevens played the full 90 minutes in the match which saw the away side go ahead through Vladimir Nikolov before Samuel Pearson levelled soon after with a low effort.

As for Denmark Under-21s, there was second half action for Mads Bidstrup as he entered the field on 56 minutes in a 1-1 home draw with Belgium. Denmark went ahead through Gustav Isaksen but the Belgians levelled not long after the break through Loïs Openda. The Danes are second in their European Championship Qualifying group on 10 points. They are behind Belgium who have 19 points, but Denmark also have two games in hand.

As for Roy Syla and Albania Under-21s, they were beaten 3-0 at home by England. Folarin Balogun grabbed a double in the second half, either side of a 51st minute Curtis Jones goal to give England all three points as they sit second in Group G. Albania are in fourth with nine points after eight games. The match rounds off Roy's first Under-21 call-up for Albania and he made two appearances having also featured against Czech Republic on Friday, 25 March.
