Tristan Crama scored a stoppage-time header as Brentford came from two goals down to win the first-ever Robert Rowan Invitational.

The Bees faced an uphill battle to overturn Manchester City EDS's two-goal advantage, but quickfire strikes from Nathan Young-Coombes and Michael Olakigbe saw the sides head back to the dressing rooms on level terms. Crama then scored in the final seconds of the second half to complete a dramatic turnaround at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, with Young-Coombes flanked by Olakigbe and Romeo Beckham.

It was City who created the first opening of the game with four minutes on the clock. Jacob Wright, having been teed up on the edge of the area, forced Ben Winterbottom into a sprawling save to his left. From the resulting corner, the ball broke to captain Kane Taylor who fired over from 20 yards.

Six minutes later, the energetic Young-Coombes intercepted a loose pass and released Beckham down the right channel. Beckham took the ball in his stride and delivered a low cross into the 18-yard box, which was well read by a City defender. Roy Syla then seized possession and saw his long-range effort comfortably held by McNamara.

The Bees fell behind on 19 minutes to a goal of real quality. From the touchline, Jacob Wright worked the ball inside to Nico O’Reilly who took a touch to set himself before planting the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the D.

City began to assert their dominance as the sun disappeared behind the west stand, working the ball beyond the Brentford press with a series of crisp passes. On 27 minutes, Micah Hamilton peeled in from the left, hurdled two challenges and curled the ball over the bar and into the west stand.

The visitors continued to probe and they doubled their lead five minutes before the break, Will Dickson poking home from close range after a shot deflected kindly into his path.

Brentford’s players would have been forgiven for allowing their heads to drop, but City’s second goal didn’t deter them.

In the 44th minute, Young-Coombes halved the deficit, poking home from close range after Ryan Trevitt delivered a low cross into the six-yard box.

The Bees were level a minute later thanks to a moment of magic from Olakigbe. The winger cut in from the left, avoided Terrell Agyemang’s challenge and curled beyond McNamara and into the far corner from 25 yards. City dominated the ball during the opening 45 minutes, but MacFarlane’s side went in level at the break having shown great efficiency in the final minutes of the half.

The game continued in a similar manner after the interval; City dominating the ball with Brentford content to remain in shape and work the ball through the thirds quickly after any turnovers in possession.

On 73 minutes, Ben Knight dropped a shoulder to work some space and bent a shot over the bar from 20 yards.

City were presented with a big chance to re-take the lead 10 minutes later. On the counter following Alex Gilbert’s corner, Knight pushed the ball beyond the Brentford backline and charged through on goal. Faced down by Winterbottom who had advanced off his line quickly to put him under pressure, Knight pulled out at the last moment and the Brentford keeper gathered.

The first Robert Rowan Invitational looked destined to end in a draw, but Brentford had other ideas.

In stoppage-time, Gilbert’s in-swinging free-kick was headed onto the crossbar by a leaping Fin Stevens and Crama was most alert to nod home the rebound from six yards.

The Frenchman darted off to the corner flag to celebrate his late winner in front of the Bees fans, as the B team ended their season in style.
