New Brentford B signing Benjamin Arthur feels making the move to west London was the right one after the 17-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Bees.
Benjamin arrives having come through the academy ranks at Peterborough United. The young defender says early conversations with head coach Neil MacFarlane helped him make the decision to sign for the club.
“I’m really excited, it’s a fantastic club with great history and I can’t wait to get started. Speaking with Neil MacFarlane, he’s a great coach, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity he has given me to come to such an amazing club.”
The youngster impressed for Peterborough’s Under-18 side last season with his performances helping the team to a cup double.
Arthur earned himself a call-up to England’s U18 squad for the International Tournament of Lisbon in June this year, following a successful campaign with his previous club.
The new Brentford arrival discussed his rise at Peterborough and how proud he was following a call-up for his country.
He said: “I joined Peterborough when I was 13 from a grassroots side, in my first year into my scholarship I really kicked on and got myself some opportunities with the U21s and also some exposure with the first team.
“When I got the call-up for England I was shocked, there are no words I can use to describe it and seeing how proud I had made my family, that’s made me really motivated to get that chance again.”
Benjamin also explained other important factors which led the centre-back to sign for the Bees, including the opportunity to travel to different countries testing himself against talent from overseas.
He continued: “You don’t get many opportunities like this at other clubs. The chance to go abroad and play against different teams and to get a taste of men’s football is outstanding.”
