A Brentford XI travelled to Mangata Pay UK Stadium on Tuesday night, falling to a 2-0 defeat to Boreham Wood.

Following an even first half, the National League South side scored twice in the second 45 minutes to take home the victory.

The clash started evenly, both sides enjoying time on the ball without troubling in the final third.

Neil MacFarlane’s side had a clear objective, to press high and put as much pressure on the Boreham Wood defenders as possible, Ashley Hay and Isaac Holland leading the way in this area.

It wasn’t until 22 minutes that either side challenged the keeper, Boreham Wood putting back-to-back headers into the right post before the ball was cleared by the young Bees’ defence.

The sides continued to enjoy a tight tussle, the home side beginning to wrestle back some momentum as the half-time break approached. Boreham Wood nearly went ahead on 35 minutes, playing out from the back and eventually finding Josh Hare in the box whose shot was saved by Marley Tavaziva in goal diving to his right.

Despite a momentum shift in favour of the home side, the young Bees continued to press and make life difficult for the Wood backline, however couldn’t get any reward for effort before the half-time whistle was blown.

Coming out of the break it was Mo Sagaf who nearly found an opener for the home side, his shot from just outside the box clearing the bar on 49 minutes.

As the two teams had done in the first half, the second 45 minutes proved a tight tussle through the opening 10 minutes, MacFarlane’s young Bees continuing to battle against senior opposition.

It took until 67 minutes for fans to see a goal, Erico Sousa receiving a cut back in the box and putting it into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the home side.

He made it 2-0 on 75 minutes to put the game to bed, MacFarlane bringing on a host of trialists, Kerron Samuels and Matas Klimas for some valuable pre-season minutes.
