Brentford B made it three-straight Premier League Cup wins with a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth Under-21s.
Iwan Morgan put the young Bees ahead at Wimborne Football Club in the first half, Kyreece Lisbie scoring a second half brace to secure all three points.
Following last week’s Professional Development League win over Cardiff City, Neil MacFarlane made three changes to his starting line-up, Matthew Cox stepping into goal and Yunus Konak and Ji-soo Kim coming into midfield and defence respectively.
The hosts earned the best chance of the opening 15 minutes of play. Ash Clarke pounced on a loose pass deep in Brentford’s defence and fired goalward, however it cannoned into the post before being cleared.
The game continued to be a back-and-forth affair with no real chances coming for either side. The young Bees’ best early chance on goal came on 18 minutes as Max Dickov’s pass freed up Isaac Holland breaking down the right side. He crossed immediately, the ball deflecting to Morgan on the edge of the box who fired goalward, but it was over the bar.
Bournemouth came close to finding the opener on 22 minutes as Kian Tydeman chipped the ball goalward over Cox, however Ji-soo was there to clear the ball off the line.
Less than a minute later MacFarlane’s side found some space on the counterattack, Morgan taking possession and pushing forward before firing at goal from the edge of the box, the ball racing to the bottom right corner to give Brentford the lead.
Dickov came close to finding a second for the young Bees, however his header was cleared off the line.
Brentford continued to dominate possession as the first half progressed, however were not able to challenge the scoreboard again as they took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Coming out of half-time it was Lisbie who started as he meant to go on, firing a shot at goal on 50 minutes that cannoned off the bar, Morgan gaining possession back and firing at goal again, but his shot was saved by Callan McKenna for the hosts.
Two minutes later Morgan and Lisbie paired up again to score Brentford’s second goal, the former’s shot being spilled by McKenna, Lisbie there to put it home from close range.
McKenna was called into action again just after the hour mark. Holland’s cross found Lisbie who fired goalward, McKenna keeping it out. The ensuing shot from Josh Stephenson near the edge of the box was also kept out in a strong period for the Bournemouth keeper.
The hosts came close to finding their first soon after as Clarke found some space inside the box and fired at goal, but he put it over the bar.
Minutes later Brentford put the game to bed with a third goal as Lisbie pounced on a loose ball inside the box, turned and fired the ball into the top right corner.
After Malcom Dacosta Gonzalez’s shot was deflected away, Bournemouth got reward for effort on 80 minutes as Koby Mottoh’s shot snuck past Cox and into the bottom left corner.
The young Bees defended strongly to see out the game, setting up a cracking PL Cup clash next Monday against Chelsea.
