Neil MacFarlane's Brentford B welcome Derby County Under-21s to Wheatsheaf Park on Monday evening for their second Premier League Cup fixture this season (7pm kick-off).
This game will mark the side’s first home game of the 2024/25 PL Cup campaign - a competition that has brought a lot of fond memories for the group, most notably the title-winning run in the 2022/23 season.
Speaking on the season so far, MacFarlane said: “The 2024/25 season has been a busy one so far for our group. Following our academy’s rise to Category Two status and our involvement in the Under-21 Professional Development League, it’s been a busy campaign.
“We have also continued to play in our traditional Premier League Cup and Middlesex Cup competitions, as well as our tours overseas, to give our players a strong games programme.
“We opened our PL Cup campaign with a 6-3 loss to Chelsea U21s, but we showed great improvement after a loss to the young Blues in pre-season.”
Brentford announced the re-opening of Wheatsheaf Park as the home venue for the club’s B team and under-18s fixtures in October 2023.
Since then, Brentford B have made a number of special memories as MacFarlane’s side now have their own base, where they can perform in front of the club’s supporters.
“It’s amazing. There's always been something different every single year I've been involved with the B team and this is no different and even better, in many respects,” said MacFarlane.
"For every person at the club and for everybody who worked tirelessly to get it up and running, a huge, huge thanks goes to them.
“This is a brilliant area to come and watch football and it’s clear that the supporters have thoroughly enjoyed it; we have an exciting run of fixtures coming up with the Premier League Cup game against Derby next, followed by a big London derby against QPR."
