Brentford Under-21s beat Peterborough United Under-21s 2-1 in Professional Development League action at Wheatsheaf Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The game saw Josh Stephenson make his first appearance for the club, whilst Igor Thiago and Paris Maghoma were first-team inclusions, but it was another first-teamer Ryan Trevitt who secured the points for the home side with a brace.

Neil MacFarlane's side had to settle for a draw against Swansea City Under-21s last time out which ended their run of wins but their unbeaten run in all competitions was still intact and they wanted to keep it that way.

Stephenson and Thiago were notable inclusions in the line-up as a strong team began the game in impressive fashion, dominating the ball and the territory.

Kyreece Lisbie had the first chance of the game finding space in the box but the winger miscued his left-foot shot.

The good combinations in the middle of the park continued from the home team and Lisbie's driven cross found an unmarked Ethan Brierley in the penalty area, but the midfielder's shot went wide.

Thiago was next to go close and it once again was a result of fine play from the midfielders. Lisbie played a first-time cross into the box but Thiago's contact on the ball was minimal as the keeper made an easy save despite the striker being unmarked.

The pressure continued and it was neat one touch play that was creating the chances. Benjamin Fredrick was released out wide by Paris Maghoma's fine pass, he played a first-time cross into Lisbie but the winger failed to divert his effort on target.

The deadlock was broken on the stroke of the half-time whistle as Trevitt was played in by Thiago with a lovely backheel and the midfielder had the time and space to tuck away from just outside the penalty area to give the home side the lead.

Stephenson was making his first appearance as a Brentford player and the defender went close to a debut goal on two occasions. The first was a flick goal which beat the goalkeeper but just went wide of the post. The second was a towering head which crashed off the bar.

Matt Cox was called into action as he made a great save to deny Joe Davies' curled effort.

With their first real sustained period of pressure in the game Harley Mills was fouled in the box by Ji-soo Kim, the referee pointing straight to the spot.

The left-back stepped up to take the penalty, confidently dispatching down the middle.

Second-half substitute Ben Krauhaus did well to win a free-kick for the Bees in a good position. Trevitt stepped up to take the free-kick and tucked it away past the goalkeeper to score his second of the game.

Mills had two late free-kicks which were both on target and required excellent saves from Cox.

Brentford had to work hard to see out the game but the three points were eventually secured despite late pressure from the young Posh.
