B team defender Charlie Farr is hoping as many Brentford supporters as possible can head to Monday night’s Premier League Cup quarter-final against Arsenal Under-21s.
The young Bees have been in great form in the competition and find themselves vying for a spot in the semi-finals in what is their debut campaign in the tournament. Having won six of their seven matches so far it’s sure to be an exciting clash against the Gunners.
Discussing the match on Monday, Charlie said: “Everyone is dying to start in the team against Arsenal because it’s going to be a great game. Even if you’re not in the team everyone is going to be behind each other and wishing the lads well. We’re all looking forward to it.
“It would be great for you guys (the fans) to come down and support us because we need it. I’m sure it will be a tough game but if we can get support down there then it will be great.”
Charlie was speaking following the end of the side’s week-long stay in Portugal where they played two matches against senior opposition in Breiðablik and IF Elfsborg. On Thursday it was the Swedish side in Elfsborg who came out on top with a 4-1 win in the Algarve but the 21-year-old felt the scoreline wasn’t quite the reflection on the performance level from Brentford.
He continued: “They (Elfsborg) were probably the better team but I think 4-1 was an unfair result in the end. It’s a good test for the boys, these are the teams that really test us. We’re really disappointed to come away with the loss but we learned a lot.
“I think before the game we looked at them and there were a few things which they did in this game which they ended up scoring from. That came from a bit of sloppiness from us, but I’m sure come Monday in the Premier League Cup we’ll be ready to go.
“When we were in our defensive shape we were really strong. In the mid to low block, we’ve worked on it all season, and I think we’re good at it now. We were unlucky to concede from long shots today. We’re working for each other out there and we suffered out of possession at times. We weren’t as good in possession as we’d have liked to have been.
“We’ve played two first teams, the Icelandic champions (Breidablik) and a Swedish Premier League (Allsvenskan) side so they’re great tests for us. We can only get better from them.”
If you’re interested in heading down to watch the young Bees on Monday night, tickets are available on the gate for £5 adults/£2 Under-12s at the VBS Community Stadium.
