Brentford B were in pre-season action on Saturday afternoon as they faced Hanwell Town at the Powerday Stadium.
As the hosts were preparing for their season opener in the Southern League Premier South on 5 August a young Brentford team, which fielded four trialists from the start and two from the bench, were beaten 3-0.
Temi Akinbusoye notched two goals in the first period before a late strike from Dan Carr earned Town the pre-season win in front of 642 spectators.
Brentford looked the more likely early on with two chances falling for Max Dickov in quick succession. A low cross from Tony Yogane saw Dickov prod the ball goalwards but for an important Hanwell block. That preceded another good chance when the Brentford man was found in the inside right channel after timing his run well but his powerful effort aimed towards the top left-hand corner edged wide.
Hanwell went in front on 20 minutes when the powerful Town striker, Akinbusoye, managed to cut in from the left and hold off Erion Zabeli before firing home past Vincent Angelini.
He then got his second just moments before the break when the Bees were dispossessed high up the field leaving the Town striker able to find the net to make it 2-0 at half-time.
The second period lacked rhythm with changes made and chances weren’t as frequent as Brentford struggled for any consistent forward threat. New signing Ethan Laidlaw was introduced on 65 minutes and show positive glimpses with good interplay as he looked to hold the ball up as a central striker and switch the ball into the wide areas.
A shot from a Bees trialist edged wide going into the final 15 before Hanwell scored their third goal very late when a pass was intercepted and Carr found the net to wrap up with win for Town.

Simultaneously another young Brentford side were in action with the under-18 team, along with some B team players, heading to Leatherhead for more pre-season action.
Lydia Bedford’s side came up against a senior team in Leatherhead and were beaten 1-0 at Fetcham Grove. Conor McManus, Byron Wilson and Beaux Booth all featured for the side as they aimed to get significant minutes against the Isthmian South Central side.

A Brentford trialist went close inside 20 minutes before Leatherhead got the all-important goal through Tyler Cox. The Leatherhead man was played down the left and tricked his way into the box before unleashing a powerful drive past Reggie Rose.
Brentford created again through the same forward trialist, but they found it tough at times to deal with the home side’s presence.
Leatherhead had the chance to double their lead with 10 minutes to play but for a penalty save by Reggie Rose.
Our under-18 side begin their EFL South East Youth Alliance campaign next week (Saturday 5 August) when they travel to Sutton United in an 11am kick-off.
