New B team recruit Iwan Morgan is excited for his new chapter having agreed to join the Bees on a three-year contract from Swansea City on transfer deadline day.
The Wales international arrives in west London having had a brilliant season for the Swans in 2022/23 and he can’t wait to get going with his new teammates.
“I’m over the moon to be here,” said the 17-year-old. “It’s been a long day trying to get something sorted but I’m over the moon. I came last week to have a look and see what the club can do for me.”
Discussing the form that got him noticed by the Bees, Morgan says he’s had some great experiences in south Wales in a campaign where he netted four hat-tricks as he netted 28 times for their under-18 side.
The youngster continued: “It was a good season for me in general, and good for my development. It was a year where I got to play my first season with the under-21s and it was good for me to play in an upper age group, against better players. Last season was very good, I scored a lot of goals and I hope to bring that here.
“There were some games where I think I should’ve come away with more! Like I said, last year was really good for me and perhaps the best one I’ve had in front of goal and my development as a player.”
Having had a chance to look around at Brentford, the youngster says he was convinced this was the next best step for him to continue his development as he sets about a successful campaign with the B team.
On his early conversations with the club, Morgan said: “When I spoke to Lee Dykes, Neil (MacFarlane) and Michael (Adesida, head of Academy recruitment) and they gave me a tour. I thought I’d be stupid not to come here and take the opportunity. It’s everything I’ve been asking for.
“I know Fin Stevens came on loan at Swansea and I know a couple of boys who spoke to him and asked him about the club. I heard really good things, seeing them (Brentford) on tv, and they bring through youngsters who are always on the bench. It’s good for young players to know that the manager is willing to give players opportunities which is what you want.”
