Brentford B defender Ji-soo Kim has earned his first senior international call-up for South Korea.
The 18-year-old defender, who arrived in west London from K League Two side Seongnam earlier this year, has played five times for the young Bees so far and also joined Thomas Frank’s first team for the pre-season tour to America.
Internationally, Ji-soo has made 29 international appearances across three different age groups for the South Korean national team, most recently featuring for his country in the Under-20 World Cup where they achieved a fourth-place finish.
South Korea will play two friendly fixtures in the UK during the September international break, first against Wales in Cardiff on 7 September and then against Saudi Arabia at St James Park on 12 September.
The team were last in action back in June as they drew 1-1 with El Salvador having also been narrowly beaten by Peru a few days before.
On the opportunity for Ji-soo to compete for his first senior minutes for his nation, Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane said: “We’re at an early stage in Ji-soo’s progression with us here at Brentford, but what we’ve seen since he’s come in is a hugely motivated individual.
“He’s a really talented young player and we can’t wait to continue working with him. As has always been the case with the B team, it’s brilliant to see our players recognised internationally.
"For Ji-soo to take the next step to be called into the senior team with South Korea is something he should be incredibly proud of.”
