Brentford B will face Icelandic champions Breiðablik on Saturday as they return to the Algarve for a match at the Estádio Municipal de Albufeira. Kick-off will be at 1pm.

The young Bees are back in Portugal for two fixtures, the first of which comes against the Icelandic side before they face Swedish side IF Elfsborg. The B team were in Portugal just last month as they competed in the Atlantic Cup where they beat Halmstads BK, drew with AIK Fotboll and were narrowly beaten by South Korean champions Ulsan Hyundai.

Setting the scene

The B team haven’t had a game since 18 February but have been hard at work at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre. The two matches against Breiðablik and Elfsborg provide them with more chances to test themselves against men’s opposition having had challenging matches last month in the Atlantic Cup. These matches will help the side build minutes ahead of their Premier League Cup Quarter-Final match with Arsenal on 13 March.

About Breiðablik

Breiðablik compete in the Besta deild karla which is contested by 12 teams and they won the league in 2022. They are currently in preparation for the return of their league campaign in the coming months but they have been in action in the Icelandic Men's Football League Cup which is a pre-season professional football competition. Recent results have seen them beaten 2-0 by Leiknir Reykjavik whilst they beat Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar 3-1 and Kórdrengir 3-0 all in February.

Last time out

The B team's last match was against Newcastle United Under-21s away from home. The Magpies had a two-goal lead at the break but the Bees rallied in the second half to pull a goal back. Despite creating a host of chances throughout the second period, Newcastle struck two very late goals to win the match. That game preceded a 3-2 win for the side as Romeo Beckham netted very late as the side progressed in the Middlesex Senior Cup against Wealdstone.

Last time we met

The B team have faced Breiðablik before having come up against them during their 2021/22 Atlantic Cup campaign. The Icelandic side ran out 2-1 winners on the night at the Estádio Algarve. Damir Muminovic put the side ahead before Kristinn Steindórsson finished well in the second half. The Bees pulled a goal back through Tristan Crama and the side went on to force some smart stops from the Breiðablik keeper but were unable to draw level as the Icelandic side took the points.
