Brentford B will open their Premier League Cup campaign on Tuesday 13 September as they travel to take on Blackburn Rovers Under-21s in a 7pm kick-off at the Lancashire FA’s Leyland County Ground. Entry to the match will be free of charge for supporters.
This will be the first time that the Bees have entered this competition which is designed for sides in the Under-21 age group. The tournament runs over the course of the season with 32 teams placed into groups of four before the competition progresses onto knockout stages. Each side is allowed five over-age outfield players and one over-age goalkeeper.
Last year West Bromwich Albion won the tournament as they faced Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final. The match was level at 2-2 after extra-time before the Baggies clinched the trophy following a penalty shootout.
Brentford have been placed in Group D alongside Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Peterborough United and will play each side home and away- starting off with a trip to the north west on Tuesday.
The young Bees will go into the match following three consecutive fixtures at Jersey Road where they took on AFC Wimbledon as well as Under-21 sides from Millwall and Bournemouth. The side have collected two consecutive wins having beaten the Lions and the Cherries with the last match a 2-0 victory over the Dorset side as Alex Gilbert and Tristan Crama netted the goals.
