Brentford have signed Spanish attacking midfield player José Peleteiro Ramallo from Real Club Celta de Vigo for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, commonly known as Jota, has been in London for the past few days and has signed a three-year contract after agreeing the switch from Celta, who play in La Liga, the Spanish top flight.

The last of the paperwork was finalised this morning and Jota is now officially a Brentford player, subject to international clearance.

He will stay at Griffin Park until the summer of 2017.

“He is very highly regarded in Spain and it is testament to the Owner Matthew Benham, Sporting Director Frank McParland and his team that we have been able to secure a player of this quality.

“He offers us real technical craft, an attacking threat and excellent set piece delivery.

“He adds another level of quality to the squad on top of the quality we brought in over the summer.

“It is exciting for Brentford to attract players of this stature; there was a lot of interest from clubs in La Liga and The Championship.

“We look forward to working with Jota in the weeks and months ahead and it is great that we managed to sign him before the weekend.”

Jota has been with Celta since the age of 13.

He made his first appearances for the Celta de Vigo B, the reserve side that has, for the past few years, played in the third and fourth tier of Spanish football.

Jota has played four times for Celta's First Team and had loan spells at Real Madrid B and Sociedad Deportivo Eibar.

He spent the 2013/14 season with Eibar and scored 11 goals in 35 games as he helped them to reach La Liga for the first time in their history.

Jota will wear the number 23 shirt this season.
