Lee Carsley's Development Squad produced a fine attacking performance to beat Barnsley 7-2 at Jersey Road in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South this afternoon.
The Bees led 2-0 inside eight minutes through Jermaine Udumaga and Courtney Senior but Charlie Doors pulled one back three minutes later.
Josh Laurent re-established a two goal lead just before the half-time break but again The Tykes hit straight back through Rhys Oates.
Senior scored his second midway through the second-half and the floodgates opened in the final 15 minutes as Kyjuon Marsh-Brown, Laurent and a Logan Jeffs own-goal completed The Bees biggest win of the season.
Looking for a first win in three matches Lee made three changes to the starting XI as Richard Lee, Zain Westbrooke and Gradi Milenge came in for Jack Bonham, Bradley Clayton and Raphael Calvet.
The game was only four minutes old when The Bees first struck as Udumaga ran in behind a high Barnsley back-line and kept his composure to slot home from 12 yards.
George Maris shot over for the visitors but they soon found themselves two behind as Senior's pace got him past Samuel Jones and he finished low across Jack Walton from inside the box.
Despite only ten minutes being on the clock it looked like a long afternoon for the visitors but they soon hit back as Doors stooped to head home an inswinging Matt Templeton corner.
After the chaos of the opening stages the match settled down as the half progressed with Brentford dominating possession and territory and looking the likelier to add to their goals tally.
Barnsley were playing a high line and allowing a lot of space for Senior, Udumaga and Emmanuel Oyeleke to break in to.
Walton made a good double save to firstly deny Senior and then Zain Westbrooke before good work down the right by Oyeleke and Laurent culminated with Aaron Greene slicing wide at the back post.
Senior chipped a shot wide after he again got in behind the visitors' backline, Walton came to The Tykes rescue making a fine block save from Udumaga and then Laurent had a shot blocked behind.
Westbrooke found Oyeleke on the right-hand edge of the box and he shot across the face of the goal but The Bees did grab a third eight minutes before half-time.
Jones lost possession to Laurent on the edge of his box and the midfielder kept his calm to lift the ball over the helpless Walton and into the back of the net.
A two goal lead was no less that Brentford deserved on their first-half showing but again they failed to establish the cushion, allowing Oates to tap home Jacob Brown's inviting right-wing cross just two minutes later.
There was still time before the break for Laurent to head over after Clarke's cross had been hooked towards goal by Westbrooke.
The second-half took a little while to get going in terms of attempts on goal with Udumaga and Oyeleke having efforts blocked before Barnsley felt a little aggrieved they weren't on level terms.
A corner was cleared and when it came back in Brown was on hand to poke home Oates' header but the linesman had his flag up for offside.
The visitors sense of annoyance might have been compounded had George Williams' sliced clearance not fortunately hit the bar and bounced into the hands of Walton just a minute later.
Laurent and Senior both sent shots wide from distance before the pair combined to score Brentford's fourth of the afternoon.
The former QPR midfielder released Senior with a well weighted ball and the winger raced into the box and passed the ball under Walton and into the back of the net.
Substitute Bradley Clayton nearly got in on the act as Walton made a fine save to turn his effort over the bar.
Barnsley had responded well to falling 2-0 and 3-1 behind but coming back from 4-2 seemed too much for them as Brentford ran riot in the closing stages.
Lee was called into making a good save from Oates but that was about the sum of Paul Heckingbottom's side's attacking efforts in the final 20 minutes.
Laurent shot over from long-range before substitute Marsh-Brown made the result safe as he created enough space for himself at the near post to find a way past Walton and a defender on the line.
Senior was inches away from a hat-trick as he struck the outside of the post after Clayton's clever ball had freed him and Clayton himself had the next chance but that was blocked away by a defender.
It was 6-2 with eight minutes to go as Aaron Greene's neat reverse ball found Clayton and although his effort was blocked by Walton the ball dropped for Laurent to tap into an empty net.
A minute later it was seven as Marsh-Brown's dangerous low cross was diverted into his own net, via the post, by Williams.
Despite been beaten seven times Walton in the visitors goal had manfully stood up to The Bees attacking efforts and he prevented any further damage by making a splendid flying save to turn Udumaga's shot around the post.
Udumaga and Clayton saw shots blocked from corners before Senior, still in search of his hat-trick, shot wide.
Udumaga had the final effort on goal of the match as he shot over from distance but it mattered little as The Bees prepared for Friday's match with Cardiff City with a fine victory.
