Lee Carsley's Development Squad suffered a second Under-21 Professional Development League Two South defeat in five days after a 3-0 reversal at Griffin Park against Nottingham Forest this afternoon.

Oliver Burke put the visitors ahead in the sixth minute before a disastrous two minute spell late on in the first-half settled the match.

Firstly Mark Smith gave the ball away playing out of defence and Jorge Grant had the simple task of rolling into an empty net before Courtney Senior tripped Burke inside the area, Jack Blake converting from the spot.

The Bees tried to rally in the second-half but got very little change out of an organised Forest backline as they slipped to a second straight defeat.

Josh Laurent returned after missing Monday's trip to Leeds United while there were also starts for Raphael Calvet and Lewis Macleod, the latter returning after nearly five months out with injury.

Playing in front of a sizeable crowd at Griffin Park it was The Bees who started far the brighter and they should have led inside three minutes.

Senior burst down the left wing and his low cross was swept towards goal by Bradley Clayton from close range, Jack Kelly did brilliantly on the line got his body in the way to clear but in truth Clayton shouldn't have given him a chance to block.

Laurent's fierce shot was well held by Dimitar Evtimov and Clayton shot straight at the visiting keeper from range as Brentford started well.

Despite their good start The Bees soon found themselves behind as Burke broke through on the left side of the defence and rolled a cool finish past Smith from 12 yards.

After an opening period that saw chances at both ends the game settled into more of a pattern as the half wore on.

Forest were using the size and power of Gerry McDonagh, playing on his own up front, to hold the ball up and look to involve the impressive wide duo of Burke and James Thorne.

The Bees were seeing plenty of the ball but they were being let down too often by their final pass or shot once they got into dangerous areas.

Senior and Laurent both missed the target from the edge of the box before Clayton could only squeeze a shot into the side netting once he had got down the outside of Joe Worrall.

Jermaine Udumaga was next to miss the target before the visitors showed Brentford how it was done with two goals in a clinical 90 second spell.

Brentford did make it easy for Forest as Smith's underhit pass was picked up by Grant and he had the easiest of tasks to round Smith and slide home into an unguarded net.

Almost straight from the kick-off it was 3-0 as Burke's direct running got him into the box where Senior clipped his heels giving the referee no option but to award a penalty - Blake rolled the ball just past the despairing dive of Smith.

3-0 was not a fair reflection on the opening 40 minutes but nobody in red and white could argue with Forest's clinical finishing.

Laurent shot over from just inside the box but it was Forest who could have ended the half even further in front as Grant and McDonagh both shot over in the dying seconds of the first period.

Any hope of a Brentford comeback relied on a fast start to the second-half and they so nearly got exactly that as Aaron Greene and Senior combined down the left but Evtimov was out bravely to save at Udumaga's feet within 20 seconds of the restart.

Laurent headed Senior's cross over the bar while at the other end Burke pulled a shot wide from the edge of the box and McDonagh headed over from close range.

Brentford were trying to fight back into the match but Forest were controlling the second-half excellently, never allowing Carsley's side to get up a head of steam and put their goal under concerted pressure.

The Bees introduced 15-year-old Joshua Bohui midway through the half and he made an instant impact driving at the heart of the Forest defence and forcing Evtimov into an-all-too rare save.

Udumaga shot over with 20 minutes to go but after that it was Forest who created all the goalscoring chances.

Roger Riera-Canadell's mistimed header nearly wrongfooted Smith but the goalkeeper recovered to make an excellent save and it was the Forest defender who had the final chance as he glanced a header wide from a wicked Jack Kelly delivery.

The win all-but confirmed Forest's participation in the end of season play-offs while The Bees now have two weeks now to prepare for their final two fixtures, a pair of London derbies against Charlton Athletic.
