Brentford has been awarded the preliminary level of the Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard (PLEDIS).  

The accreditation was formally received by Brentford’s non-executive director Monique Choudhuri, from Matt Pounder, Premier League equality, diversity and inclusion standard manager during half-time at our recent home fixture against Bournemouth.  

The award recognises Brentford’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) work after the club’s second season in the Premier League.  

The club continues its EDI work to achieve subsequent PLEDIS standards and ensure Brentford is accessible to all.

PLEDIS was launched in 2021 to build on the Premier League equality standard, which was created in 2015.

It provides a framework to help clubs progress EDI across all areas of their business, including the work of their Community Trust (or equivalent).

All Premier League clubs, and some EFL clubs, work towards achieving the preliminary, intermediate and advanced levels of the standard. 

Monique Choudhuri said: “Here at Brentford, we strive to put inclusivity at the forefront of everything we do. We’re very committed and passionate about EDI and it’s important with how we recruit our staff, and how we engage with fans and fan groups. 

“Widening our EDI initiatives is always a moving target, but PLEDIS is an excellent framework to measure our achievements and ensure we are keeping on track. We’re very grateful to the Premier League for this award and also the support of our fans and staff involved in implementing our initiatives.” 

Kuljit Randhawa, the Premier League’s head of diversity and inclusion strategy, added: “We are extremely pleased to have awarded Brentford Football Club the preliminary level of the Premier League Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Standard for their commitment to working towards a more inclusive environment for both fans and staff.   

“They have made a significant amount of progress in their equality work since promotion to the Premier League.

"During the club’s recent assessment, the PLEDIS panel of independent experts commended their genuine, club-wide commitment to and exceptional leadership in bringing about positive and lasting impact.  

“The club has demonstrated a clear, zero-tolerance stance on all forms of abuse and discrimination and continue to communicate this effectively, internally and externally.

"We look forward to continuing to support Brentford to enhance their work in this area.”
