The 2021/22 season was a success for both the Brentford FC Women’s First Team and B Team. Both sides finished fourth in their respective divisions and there were standout moments throughout. Eyes have now turned to the 2022/23 campaign, which is fast approaching.
Amy Crook, Women’s Teams General Manager, set herself the challenge of beating the Club Record for attendance to a Women’s game during the season. The previous number was set at Griffin Park when 400 people came to watch a game. On Sunday 6 March history was made when the First Team had a fixture against Sport London e Benfica.
Amy said: “This time the setting was Bedfont Football Club, extra parking was hired out, three officials were wired up, paramedics were on site and stewards were in place; all to get 1,010 people through the turnstiles safely. This was an outstanding achievement for the club. The team thrived under the pressure and delivered a wonderful 7-2 victory for the crowd to enjoy.
"As well as finishing fourth in their league, The B Team enjoyed a brilliant cup run which saw them lift the Greater London Women's Football League Anniversary Trophy at the end. They were the underdogs throughout as they navigated their way past higher level opposition, causing upset after upset. This summed up the team spirit The Bees had displayed throughout the season.
"B Team Head Coach Will Blithing encapsulated the spirit his side exhibited week in week out. He has been at the helm of the side for five years, a long time in management. During his tenure Will enjoyed a promotion as well as guiding the B Team to lifting a trophy this year. It is sad to see him go but he has left the team in a strong position going into next season and we thank him for his incredible service to the club.
"As Brentford FC Women's teams enter our 33rd season, our trials started back in May and continued all the way through to the first week of June. More than 60 trialists attended during these weeks, all good and capable players of varying abilities. Out of all those we only selected 14 to play for Brentford FC Women's Teams for next season.
"The new season for the First Team kicks off on 21 August, this may be a league match or FA Women's Cup preliminary round fixture. We are hoping for fixtures to be announced towards the end of July for the First Team.
"B Team fixtures are set to begin on 4 September in the Greater London Women's Football League, with the games announced towards the middle of August. There are plenty of cup competitions to look forward to this coming season as well.
"Our vision now is to win promotion for the First Team, moving towards the Women's National League. We have a very sound infrastructure now that is robust and efficient to help us carry this forward.
"We want to have the very best for everybody, players, coaches, spectators, volunteers and officials as we move forward. We as a club will not stop trying to achieve greater heights and will strive to succeed and give the very best of ourselves for next season and beyond."
