Brentford have signed striker Portugal Under-21 international Alberto Coelho from Sporting Clube de Portugal on loan for the 2014/15 season.
The 21-year-old attacker – better known as Betinho – arrived in London this morning to complete the move.
He will be part of the Brentford squad for the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign subject to international clearance.
Betinho came through the youth ranks at Sporting – known internationally as Sporting Lisbon – and has a fine record in Portugal’s youth teams.
He was also part of the Sporting team that finished third in the 2012/13 NextGen Series - a tournament for the Academy teams at some of Europe’s top clubs that ran from 2011 to 2013 and was driven by current Brentford Manager Mark Warburton.
Mark said: “Betinho is a very talented striker that first came to prominence in the NextGen Series for Sporting Lisbon.
“He is quick, strong and technically gifted and he shone in very good team that included João Teixeira, who is known to Brentford fans.
“Betinho had a spell out on loan last season and we have moved to bring him to Brentford.
“We are looking forward to him making a positive contribution in the season ahead.”
Betinho has been with Sporting since the age of 11.
He has scored 16 goals in 49 league games for Sporting B, in the second tier of Portuguese football.
He had a spell on loan at Vitória FC last season.
Betinho has played for Portugal at every level from Under-15 to Under-21.
In total he has scored 26 goals for his country in 57 games at all levels, two in four games at Under-21 level.
