Brentford have signed Scottish midfielder Lewis Macleod from Glasgow Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old signed a three-and-a half year deal this morning to complete the move from the Scottish side which he joined as a 10-year-old.

Subject to international clearance, Lewis will be a Brentford player when the January FIFA transfer window opens on January 3, but he will not be eligible for this Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Brighton and Hove Albion later that day.

He will stay at Griffin Park until the summer of 2018.

Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Manager, said: “I am delighted to have secured such a young talent as Lewis.

"He has had an outstanding season with Rangers.

"It is testament to the work of the owner Matthew Benham, Frank McParland and his team, and David Weir that Lewis has joined.

"He is a player who can play in all midfield positions, he has two excellent feet and an eye for goal.

"He will be an excellent addition to the playing squad and I am sure he will play a key role in the second-half of the season."

Lewis joined Rangers as a 10-year-old in 2004 and made his first-team debut in 2012 and has gone on to appear 75 times, scoring 16 goals in total, for the Ibrox club.

This season he made 20 appearances in the league and cup, scoring eight goals.

Lewis has represented Scotland at every age from Under-16 to Under-21 and was recently called up to Gordon Strachan's full Scotland squad for their matches against the Republic of Ireland and England.

Lewis will wear the number 4 shirt this season.
