Brentford supporters reached the last eight of the annual WorldNET tournament – in searing heat – at Nottingham University last weekend.
The tournament, internetfootball.org.uk, which has been running for more than 20 years, is open to supporters’ teams for all parts of the United Kingdom and beyond – RC Lens (France) and Arsenal Nigeria – were among the entrants this year.
Brentford Veterans team – nine of the players need to be aged 35+ – took part and were wearing kit supplied by the Club.
The tournament comprises a series of group games on day one (Saturday) followed by a knockout tournament on the Sunday.
Brentford Veterans kicked off with a 0-0 draw against Manchester United then beat Ipswich Town 2-0 thanks to goals from Alex Banks and Dave Goodall.
The final game on Saturday saw Brentford earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Rotherham United - Brentford's goal coming from a Danny Baynham penalty.
On the Sunday the team comfortably beat Bury 3-0 in the first round; goals with Gaz Wilson, Tyler Phillips and Alex Banks.
The team bowed out in the quarter finals when they were beaten by a strong Gillingham team 3-0. The tournament was won, for the second year running, by Rotherham who defeated Everton 3-0 in the final.
