Brentford Women made history once again on Sunday afternoon as a record crowd of 1,124 watched on at Bedfont Sports Club as the women’s first team beat Richmond Park 4-1.

An unbelievable hat-trick from Chloe Logie followed up a Freya Worsley equaliser to ensure Brentford Women all three points in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North.

The Bees came into the game in good form following the 3-1 victory over Denham United in the Capital Cup semi-final in their last outing but it was Richmond who had the first chance of the match just a few minutes in.

Tess Adlam did well on the right flank to deliver a cross onto the foot of Lauren Hawkley whose first-time shot forced a save from Emily Boycott from close range.

It didn’t take Brentford long to have their first opportunity of the game when Sophie Troth slipped through a neat ball into the path of Logie whose shot from just inside the box was saved well by Richmond keeper, Mia Patton.

On 13 minutes Nikki Saunders went on a brilliant run beating two Richmond players on the left side of the box before making her way into the area and swiping the ball with her left foot only to see her effort go inches wide of the post.

Saunders was unfortunate to not get on the score sheet for Brentford

Moments later Richmond took the lead after Hawkley dispossessed Boycott inside the Bentford box and was able to pass the ball into an empty net giving the visitors the first goal of the game.

After lots of pressure, the host’s got their deserved equaliser 10 minutes later through a powerful strike from Worsley.

The midfielder got her first goal since signing for the Bees after Logie played a perfect cutback pass to the number 20 who showed composure to smash the ball into the top left corner from 12 yards.

Just after the half-hour mark, Brentford got themselves in front and it was the number nine Logie who slotted the ball home confidently.

The striker ran with the ball for 20 yards before making her way into the box and calmly placing her strike into the bottom right corner leaving Patton with no chance.

The momentum was with Brentford as they went into half-time a goal up and it only took the home team three minutes to get a third after the break.

It was Logie once again for the Bees who was on scene to tap home the ball from close range following a goal-mouth scramble after an in-swinging corner from Saunders.

The number nine was on fire and sealed her hat-trick just two minutes later on 50 minutes with her third goal proving to be the best of the bunch.

After picking up the ball on the left side of the Richmond box the striker struck her shot with power from long range as her effort flew over Patton, taking the striker to 26 goals for the season.

The two quick goals from Logie allowed Brentford to relax as Richmond posed little attacking threat compared to the first half.

On 72 minutes Hawkley did well to make strong contact with a cross as the number six struck the ball on the volley but Regan Graver who was solid at the back for the host’s was there again to make a big block.

It was a packed Bedfont Sports Club on Sunday afternoon

Boycott was called into action a few minutes later as Hawkley was trying to single handily pull her side back into the game.

The striker’s effort from eight yards out was saved by Boycott who reacted well after the early error for the first goal.

Eleonora Cottrell looked lively when she came on for Brentford and nearly made it 5-1 just 10 minutes from full-time after showing some great desire to win the ball back in the Richmond half.

The number 22 snatched the ball from Lilac Jervis but could only find the side netting with her shot from a tight angle.

The 1,124 supporters in attendance saw the home side comfortably cruise to victory as they maintain in the race for the league title.

Karleigh Osborne’s thoughts

Speaking after another historic day for Brentford Women, Osborne said: “It was another fantastic day for the club and another fantastic crowd, to be honest, I thought our performance could have been better but overall, four goals and Logie with a hat-trick, it was a real good day.”

Similar to today the last time the Bees came up against Richmond they were forced to come back from a goal behind to win 3-1 in the Capital Cup quarter-finals.

Osborne discussed his side conceding early and actually felt it helped wake his team up as they went on to win comfortably.

He explained: “I don’t think we started particularly well so I think it helped us to be fair, we grew into the match and once we got that goal back we went on and controlled the rest of the first half.

“I’m always confident with this group, they know how to bring themselves back into a game and how to overcome adversity so I had 100 per cent confidence that we was going to get back in the game.”

Worsley put Brentford ahead on 37 minutes following an emphatic strike which was the midfielder's first goal for the club.

Osborne explained how pleased he has been with Worsley since her arrival and was proud of the number 20 for getting her first goal in Brentford colours.

“Freya is a fantastic player and a real good talent, sometimes I don’t think she realises how good she is.

“I spoke to her at half-time and told her to keep getting on the ball and to make things happen, I’m super pleased she’s a Brentford player because she’s fantastic.”

The head coach was left over the moon with Logie as the 18-year-old showed up again when her team needed her scoring a brilliant hat-trick.

Talking on the striker, Osborne said: “She’s frightening, every week I’m saying how good Logie is, she leads the line fantastically, her runs are clever and her finishing is excellent.

“She can go anywhere she wants if she keeps applying herself, she can play at a real good level and I hope that’s with us.”

In what was a record crowd for the second year running at Bedfont Sports Club the women’s first team showed once again they are becoming accustomed to these big occasions, and they are not a team which let’s the pressure get to them.

“It’s a wonderful thing to see because they don’t get nervous at all and they go and play some good football, said Osborne.

“They’re inspiring the next generation to get into the game and it’s a privilege for me to work with such a great bunch of people.

“We want to play in front of as many big crowds as we can and today the fans made it a real good atmosphere and I love where this football club is going.”
