Brentford put on a stunning display beating Leatherhead 5-1 in the London South East Division One North on Sunday at Bedfont Sports Club.

An early Brentford onslaught saw Ashley Cheatley score a hat-trick within the first 15 minutes of the match before a Caroline Englehard strike gave the hosts a 4-0 lead at the break. Chloe Logie got her opening day goal in the second half to wrap up a perfect day for Karleigh Osborne’s side.

The Bees played a back three which consisted of Englehard, Regan Graver and Samantha Read with Chloe Webb and Maddie Phillips utilised as wing-backs. Kirsty Matthews partnered Nour Aboul Kheir in the central midfield positions whilst Nikki Woods played in behind Cheatley and Logie.

It was a flying start from Brentford and it was all about new striker Cheatley who put the hosts ahead just six minutes in.

The former Ashford Town forward used her pace to beat the Leatherhead defender before running onto the ball and finishing neatly into the bottom corner.

Just two minutes late Cheatley was at it again, this time she cut inside from the left side of the box before curling the ball into the top right corner.

The new arrival couldn’t be stopped and sealed her competitive debut hat-trick just 13 minutes in.

Leatherhead had no answer to the Brentford onslaught and the Bees just kept coming in the opening half hour.

It was soon 4-0 to the home side, and another summer arrival who was on the score sheet in Englehard.

The defender caught the ball perfectly as she slammed home a volley following a clearance from a corner.

Brentford continued to put on a fine display for the rest of the first half taking a convincing lead into the break.

Cheatley could have had six goals in the opening half with the forward hitting the woodwork three times following her early flurry.

The striker was back at it in the second half and could have made it 5-0 to Brentford but her left footed shot was well saved this time by the Leatherhead keeper.

Logie was awarded a penalty on 56 minutes after the forward was tackled down inside the Leatherhead box, but the number nine’s spot kick was well saved by the Leatherhead keeper.

Last season’s top scorer redeemed herself just five minutes later with a superb finish into the top right corner to make it 5-0.

Leatherhead did manage to get themselves a goal when the Bees failed to clear their lines from a corner leaving Ava Devenport’s header to scurry over the line.

The hosts comfortably controlled the remaining quarter of an hour of the match ensuring a convincing opening day victory.
