Brentford secure their place in the Capital Cup final following a superb 7-1 win over Comets on Sunday afternoon.

Karleigh Osborne’s side put on a magnificent first half display scoring six times in a half which saw the Bees dominate. Two goals from Chloe Logie and strikes from Nikki Woods, Regan Graver, Kirsty Matthews, Ella Cottrell and Lucy Bolitho saw Brentford pick up a big win.

Not only were Brentford playing for a place in the Capital Cup final, but the side also had a good chance to continue their winning streak to 12 games as they faced Greater London Premier Division side Comets.

The hosts had a fair few chances in the opening minutes of the game with Freya Worsley controlling the match from the midfield.

Nikki Woods came closest to putting the Bees ahead inside the opening 15 minutes when her left footed shot went just wide of the far post.

Only a minute later Brentford took the lead with Logie continuing her rich run of form with a brilliant strike from outside the box.

The back line of Maddie Phillips, Regan Graver, Samantha Read and Chloe Webb looked as strong as ever as Comets struggled to get any joy in the attacking positions.

Brentford were unfortunate not to have doubled their lead just before the half hour mark when a Kirsty Matthews free-kick from just outside the box crashed against the bar.

The home side eventually got their deserved second goal on 32 minutes when a Woods in swinging corner found its way through a crowded box and into the back of the net.

Two minutes later Brentford were at it again from a corner this time the ball falling to Graver who poked home to grab her fourth of the campaign.

Despite offering little threat Comets managed to grab a goal back on 36 minutes with Rachel Soares profiting off a Brentford mistake.

Karleigh Osborne’s side went into the break 6-1 up with the fourth goal coming just before the interval after the Bees were awarded a penalty following a handball inside the Comets box.

Matthews stepped up and confidently smashed the ball into the roof of the net to extend the home side’s lead.

On 43 minutes Logie struck again for Brentford with her shot from inside the box finding the roof of the net as the side continued to punish Comets.

Cottrell got herself on the score sheet right before the half-time whistle was blown when her shot from right outside the box found its way into the back of the net.

The second half proved to be slightly less entertaining than the first as Brentford had a five-goal lead over the visitors.

Brentford remained in control of the ball for the majority of the second half and grabbed their seventh of the game on 75 minutes.

Substitute Lucy Bolitho got on the end of a great cross from Maddie Phillips extending the home side’s lead to seven.

Brentford eased their way to victory booking their place in back to back Capital Cup finals and setting themselves up perfectly ahead of next weekend’s league fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium.
